Parking Assistant Plus -> Pro is possible & confirmed for iX. FoD features coming

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I spotted this in another forum and decided to share here as well.

There is some very interesting reading about planned BMW Shop purchases/upgrades (FoD - Functions on Demand) coming soon.

Also confirms that much of the hardware around heating is already in the car waiting activation, even if not optioned at purchase time.

It also confirms that owners of iX models with 5DN Parking Assistant Plus can upgrade to 5DW Parking Assistant Professional as long as your vehicle has 5DN and 322 present.

That's awesome news. Wonder if they will make Highway Assistant (5AX) available as FOD for iX in selected markets.

Any idea what 322 is? I don't have that on my build sheet.

Edit: Looks like that is Comfort Access Keyless Entry. Not specifically on my build sheet, but assume it is included?

322 is Comfort Access.

It applies to cars equipped with EDC. The FOD adds an M Adaptive setting in addition to the Normal and Sport modes.

Just checked - I have both of these. Take delivery tomorrow and this is one feature I'm excited about and one I'd use every single day.

If you don't have comfort access you should call your dealership immediately and add it. That is a must have feature.

I have the sport package, which is supposed to include comfort access, so I think that is why it is not separately listed on my build sheet.

Is this just the iX? Or other cars too?

So based on this, it looks like it won't be possible to add radiant heating and rear seat heating to cars not originally optioned with it? Thanks for this.

I have had a look at the part diagrams and nowhere are trim panels different for radiant vs non-radiant heating, so there's a chance this could come as an OTA if the hardware is present.

Rear seat heating would be difficult since it relies on physical buttons in the rear climate panel to activate.

Thanks v helpful. Much appreciated. Can the rear seat heating be controlled from the Idrive as well as the physical buttons?

Nope. Only from the rear panel.

That is interesting. I like to be able have god powers over the kids seating settings as they have a tendency to think everything either needs to be either max cooling or max heating. Our 2016 Q7 has full control over the rear climate from the front.

Theoretically something they could fix or add in a software update.

EDIT: Sorry, may have misunderstood, is this just the seat heating, not the climate?

you cant individually control the rear zones, but you can sync them to the driver. you cannot control the seat heating

Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone knows of any update regarding this. July 2022 has now passed, and I do not see the ability to purchase the upgrade in the Connected Drive store.

I am guessing this may have been delayed given the bad press regarding the heated seats in Korea.

According to BMW's website, Parking Assistant Professional support via FoD is suppose to be coming with the other FoD options. In EU stores Driving Assistant Plus is already available but not sure why Parking Assistant Professional didn't go live with it.

All i got to add as FoD is speed camera warnings. Still waiting/hoping for Parking Assist Professional... First I thought that the car needed to be on SW 2022/07 for the FoD to be available, but at least the speedcams can be purchased with car on 2022/03.

Kind of like the good ole days when you didn't order the in-dash radio but every car got speakers installed anyway...

It was cheaper to install the exact same components in every vehicle (even if they weren't specifically on the build sheet) rather than adding additional logistics or splitting the line...

Intel used to do this with their CPU's as well... (Probably still do...)

Looks like BMW just turned Parking Assistant Professional upgrade on today. If the iX is running software 2022.11.x or later, the owner will have the option to activate it.

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/dp/...nt_Prof_SFA_gb

In US, the upgrade from Plus to Pro (without time limit) is $220.
