miles/kWh and charge rates, LA to Carmel & Back
For what it's worth, my husband and I just did a round trip from Orange County to Carmel, CA, and here is some car and Electrify America data.
OC - > Los Alamos via 101 185 miles, average 75 MPH 3.1 mi / kWh Los Alamos - > Carmel Valley 195 miles, average 80 MPH 2.6 mi / kWh return via Interstate 5 Carmel - > Lost Hills 163 miles, average 82 MPH 2.5 mi / kWh Lost Hills - > OC 176 miles, average 50 MPH ? (due to 2 hours of stop and go through LA) 2.9 mi / kWh ---- Electrify America average charging rates all charges at 70-80 degrees F Los Alamos, at 350 kW charger charge started 187 kW 76.11 kW added 41% - > 99%, 52 min average 87.8 kW Carmel, at 350 kW charger charge started near 190 kW 78.3 kW 47% - > 90%, 39 min average 78.3 kW Lost Hills, at 150 kW charger (as 350 kW failed to charge) charge started at 100 kW 52.98 kWh added 36% - 83%, 31 min average 102.6 kW

Awesome! Thank you so much for this data.
As someone who takes a bunch of road-trips from NorCal through the I-5 and drives about 85 MPH for long stretches, I have always wondered about what range I'd get from the iX. Looks like it is reasonable to expect ~250 miles on a full charge driving ~85 MPH, and more importantly ~180 miles from 80%-10% (optimal charging band). I am someone who would try to drive 3 hour stints if possible on road trips, and it looks like I might not quite be able to do that with the iX on the I-5. |

The Mosquito Fire!
Good memory slampert about our trip up the 395... originally to Incline Village, Lake Tahoe. Trip cancelled due to the Mosquito Fire. A real shame for fellow summer Lake Tahoe enthusiasts- fires have either killed a trip or forced us to leave early 3 summers in a row now.

I'm seeing a great deal better than this doing 75-80. Around 3.2 on my last long road trip. I very rarely average less than 3.1 if i'm using the highway alot. Do you have 21s or 22s?

Yeah the efficiency is WAY better 70-80mph and I'm sure that's the case in the East/Northeast. Unfortunately, speed limits out here some of the major corridors out in the Southwest and Texas are 70-85mph, which when you add 10-15mph to those limits for realistic "flow of traffic" speeds, it's a bit ridiculous to be hypermiling the iX at 70-80mph when most cars besides semi-trucks are at 85-95mph. At THOSE speeds, I'm seeing 2.4-2.6 on the OEM aero 21's. I'm getting my forged 22's by the end of October so hopefully it stays around 2.4-2.6 with the reduced unsprung weight though aero may be an issue. Regardless I honestly can care less about the efficiency. The 250-330 mile real-world range is plenty for us all to enjoy our iX without worrying about running out of juice going at any speed. It's refreshing (and very important) to know that we can hit 3.1-3.2 on Efficiency/70mph if any of us run into a range situation.
