Buzzing noise over the driver's seat

A question for everyone who has their cars already. I'm getting a faint-to-moderate buzzing noise coming from the ceiling over the driver's seat, near the overhead speaker and where the panoramic roof starts. It tends to be shortly after startup or idling, and it doesn't last too long and doesn't always happen. Obviously, it sticks out cause the car is so quiet.

Anyone else experiencing this or have any idea what it might be?

I get this EXACT thing above the passenger seat. It's random usually accelerating around 20-45mph.

Could it be Iconic sounds or if it's turned off a buzzing in its place?

nah i have iconic sounds on at the time, it sounds like a buzzing coming from the roof or the overhead speaker. But the speaker does put out sound, so its not broken.

I get this too, intermittently, not tied to anything, first time I thought i legit had a bee in my car it was so loud. I cant reproduce it, but my suspicion is it has something to do with interference, potentially from wireless carplay

Yes, sounds just like a bee! I thought a bee was stuck in between the glass roof and interior roof lining at first! I cannot replicate it consistently either but get it at least once a week I'd say.

Ok good to know I'm not alone. It's the only issue with the car currently, hopefully bmw has a statement on it at some point.

Just an update, I had my car at the dealer for another rattle issue that they fixed and had mentioned this buzzing and told them I could not reproduce it. They actually experienced it and found that a headliner roof clip was not installed properly. Now granted I haven't heard it since, but I didn't hear it consistently previously either.

there is a BMW IX group on Facebook, and a user just posted a video of this buzzing noise there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/bmw********/?ref=share

I have this over my passenger seat pretty consistently, I think. I just requested to join that FB group so I can see what they say, but maybe I should have my dealer check out the headliner roof clip as Tyker mentioned.

It sounds digital not like a physical part though right?

Yes, I would think it was a digital sound personally but the previous mention of a headliner clip could be the source as well. It certainly seems to be coming from that area.

I did a NJ to Boston (and back) roadtrip this weekend, and it didn't happen at all. I'm still monitoring but seems to have gone away. I'm sure I just jinxed myself and this will happen again tomorrow.

I see my link to facebook didn't point to the video of this buzzing sound- perhaps this will work? https://www.facebook.com/dds.csn/vid...0310782044338/ Is this still happening to people?

Someone else on Facebook suggested making sure the rear column AC vents were open. I opened them this morning, will see if the buzzing returns

Yes mine does it as well. Picked it up last week.
Its not in just one place overhead it sometimes happens closer to passenger side and then it will be overhead driver..

Just got seat time with my car and it does the same. Based on my experience with bmw repair and interiors it's a clip or something of that nature with the headliner. I'll try to repair (aka few taps here and there). If not I'll take to the dealer. Mine is above 50mph.

I had this problem today, after many tests, I can be sure that the noise is temperature related, above 35 degrees Celsius, and the speed is between 100-110km/h there will be a humming noise, once the temperature is below 35 Celsius (such as night), there will be no sound, which may be related to the assembly distance of some parts, in any case, related to thermal expansion and contraction. Unfortunately, the dealer can not give a solution.
