Headliner Buzzing Noice

I experienced this over the weekend. I only have about 700 miles but this only occurs when I've parked outside and it is hot. I get the sound at freeway speeds and after the car cools down, it goes away. Gonna have service check it out next week when they look at my Drivetrain error message

Here's one thing to consider. Could it be seat ventilation being active at that moment? In my X5 it's like that. When seat ventilation is on medium level and I turn the steering wheel left or right, I sometimes hear it buzzing. Taken me a while to figure out what it is. Now with iX turning it automatically, could be even harder to figure it out but just suggesting it might be worth a glimpse.

Same buzzing here.. seems to be above driverseat. First time noticed it yesterday (a day before I turned the Iconic sounds off...) and it was hot 38 C. This morning somewhat cooler (temp 25,5 C) no noise ... the "temperature comment" above makes it suspicious for me now..

I have gotten it back briefly over the last couple of weeks. I think it is related to ventilation (higher fan and seat ventilation settings) and outside temperature (it’s hot as balls right now).

Has BMW said this is an issue they are working on fixing?

Had it briefly again at the beginning of a multi-hour road trip. Came on 1 minute into the drive, went away within 1 minute, didn't happen again.

Given all the build quality issues for Teslas, software issues in Taycans, and steering knuckle issues with Lucids, this is a minor minor issue. But since the rest of the car is pretty flawless, i'd like to get an answer from BMW.

Just got my iX last week.
The sound was not there for the first week, but now I start to hear it exactly as the OP described.
Near where the panoramic roof starts, above driver/passenger seat.
I can't reproduce it on demand, but it happens quite frequently with every drive.

Anyone figure out what it is?

My BMW genius communicated with the engineering team. They say it’s a trim piece that is causing this after it heats up and is heard at both city and highway speeds. Although it sounds like it’s coming from the electrostatic roof, it apparently isn’t. They’re working on a fix.

Interesting, I might have to take it then.
I'll wait it out though and see if it'll fade away with time.

If you get a detailed explanation from them or from the job card, please share if you don't mind.

It is a setting, like in the Taycan. You can access iX auto seat ventilation in Climate Menu Settings. I do not like auto on, but my spouse does. Good thing we now have two iX

I have heard the same sound randomly over the passenger seat as well. My iX is 3 weeks old, M60. Will let my dealer know as well. Glad to see this is not a one off hopefully a good service bulletin is coming.

My buzz popped up really briefly again for a couple seconds after not happening for a couple thousand miles. Went away after 15-30 seconds. Would barely be noticeable if the car wasn't dead quiet.

Buzzing

I am having the buzz intermittently too. Sounds like it’s coming from the roof liner. Mostly happens at highway speeds. I think best way to capture the symptom is use your phone and record it and take it to the dealer. My is very loud why it happens and sounds like a bee.

I think this is correct. My '22 iX 50i had this exact same problem which dealer definitely duplicated many times. I actually drove it and put blue tape all along the seal on the outside where the pano roof meets and did not experience it for several days. They came back and thought it was related to the seal and definitely happened more when it was hot outside. Moot point now because BMW bought that vehicle back from me for the high voltage battery issue and swapped it out for an iX M60i which I just picked up yesterday so I am a happy camper again!

No rattles so far but only 70 miles in.

Did you get this fixed yet? I had this buzzing on my 2022 iX xdrive50i and, unfortunately, my '23 iX M60i also has the exact same issue.

What dealer in TX are you at?

Not yet fixed, but I haven’t followed up either…too busy with other things to deal with minor issues.

BMW Dallas.

I experienced the electrical buzz sound, too, in my M60, and I think I found the source, which is the passenger seat ventilation.

Basically, if the driver and the passenger seat ventilation are on at the same time, one of them is set to high or above. The buzzing sound appears. I turned off the passenger-side ventilation, and everything was quiet again.

Strange.

I don't have seat ventilation and get the buzz sound all the time.
