Radar detector with iX?
Anyone use one or know what kind will or won't work?
I hooked up my Cobra for a 140 mile trip and it almost never went off. I'm not sure if I was just lucky not to run into any police or if there is interference in the windshield. I know my RFID sticker for the car wash only works up on the frits so was curious if radar detectors might be similarly affected. And if so, is there a type that WILL work? |

I have a Uniden R7. It's ok but it's not very useful in GA with the prevalence of laser speed detectors here. If the local officers in your area still use mostly radar there is a newer version out.
I use Waze now. A lot of Waze users in my area who will mark speed traps. |

My radar detector works fine Escort 360c, however, I am having a tough time finding switched power in the mirror area. The wire that used to be switched power on previous bimmers now appears to be constant power to power the other stuff up there such as the cameras. Anyone find a solution for that?

If you have a thermally insulated windshield (not sure if all iX50 or iXM60's have them), you will need to ensure the radar detector is situated to "look through" the dotted areas on either side of the mirror.
Radar detectors will not get ANY signal when trying to look through a thermally insulated barrier film. I had to design a special mount to get the V1 in my Taycan up high and tight next to the mirror. None of the factory mounts would work on the Taycan. The iX, however, appears to have much larger areas on either side of the mirror or so it shouldn't be so fussy.

ok - trying to install the radar detector. i've done this in many other cars, using the blendmount and mirror tap wires
i've taken apart the clam shell and can see the wires. which wires do i tap, and is it constant hot or switched hot? thanks in advance |

yes, i understand the process. i've done it many times on other cars. the problem is determining the correct wires on the ix. i searched for a switched hot, but could not find one. ground was easy. switched hot, not so much. every wire with power was either 2 volts or constant hot 12.
which wire is switched hot 12V on the ix? |

It will seem like the constant power one (I forgot the color), it turns off about 5-10 mins after locking the car. You can test this by waiting about 10-15 mins, then walking up to the car (without a key in your pocket or your phone with you) and you should see the radar detector off.

We used to hardwire V1's back in the day with hidden displays. Would this still be a thing or is there too much interference from other driver assist radar-based systems either from the iX or from other drivers?

You are in luck! I just happened to be at my dealer removing my wiretap and blendmount from my iX 50i because me replacement iX 60i is arriving today. I took some pictures of the two wires in the harness that I tapped. This inside the and harness and behind the rearview. You pull from the top section down and the first plastic trim pops out and then the next section just pulls out to the sides and has clips. Pretty simple. Whole project took my 15 mins initially to install and less than 3 minutes to remove. This will eventually power down the radar about 10-15 mins after car shuts off and has worked great for me

I just got my M60 in December.
I like to put my V1 at the top of the A Pillar instead of a blendmount. For now I have it plugged into the ACC Port which shuts down in 15 minutes. I've noticed that the Homelink Garage door openers circuit in the mirror shuts off right away with the car. Maybe I'll tap into that. |

You can use that one with a MirrorTap. Note the the 2nd picture was taken by another forum member and shows the positive and ground connections in the wiring harness which is located in the housing behind the stem - not the one above it. It’s tight getting your hands in there. Depending on the length of your cable, there’s no need to make modifications to the housing. I have the MirrorTap 15” version which is a few inches longer than I actually needed. It’s thin enough to fit under the top housing.

Which model of the blendmount did you use? I am not sure if any will work. I had to use a specific model on the X3 because of the spacing behind the mirror. Thanks!

This is the same one that was on my M550. At first glance I did not think it was going to work, but it is the right model. I’m glad I checked because I almost ordered the same one I already had. I’ll get you the part number in a few hours.

You need the BlendMount BMX-2017. It’s a very tight fit and may not appear to work at first glance, but it is the right one.
