OMG...Insane iX deleted to my 2023 order!!!!!

I just got a call, text and several emails from my BMW dealer (same dealer I bought my i3S from, in addition to i4 M50, iX50 and B8 Alpina).

I placed an order for a Phytonic Blue iX50 a week or two ago. Production begins First week of October, and dealer delivery set for mid December 2022.

My dealer told me BMW contacted them with MASSIVE option, package and features deletes due to unforeseen and catastrophic part shortages!!

This is what my 2023 build is losing as of today, due to parts being unavailable:

9PK Special package-9 N/C
2VH Integral Active Steering
2VR 2-axle air suspension
322 Comfort Access keyless entry
323 Soft-close automatic doors
407 Panoramic Eclipsing Roof
4HC Radiant Heating Package
4NB 4-zone automatic climate control
4V1 Iconic Sounds Electric
5AU Active Driving Assistant Pro
5DW Parking Assistant Professional
688 Harman Kardon surround sound system
6NX Wireless Device Charging
6PA Personal eSIM 5G
6U3 Live Cockpit Pro (Incl. HUD, Video AR)
6U7 Natural Interaction
8Y5 Special control

CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THIS? Of course I told my dealer how upset I am, but cannot under any circumstance continue with my order
This cannot be true, since passenger lumbar and handsfree tailgate are no longer deleted.

You might want to read this thread to the end. It seems that parts may or may not be available, and features may or may not be deleted, and dealers may or may not know what they are talking about. Maybe. At the very least, communications from corporate BMW (whoever that is), to regional offices and dealers are, um, not crystal clear. The central Genius office told me, FWIW, that they see no issues with option shortages right now looking in their system, a/o this morning. Which may or may not be reliable.

I have read this before, but just lots of back and forth, packages gone, packages back, packages re-named and strange talk of lemon laws for a car not even delivered

I called my dealer and asked HOW these features can even be deleted, if they are including lumbar and hands free tailgate!

This sounds unreal. At that point they should just stop producing. Many of these features probably involve parts that are probably not iX specific either.

Do they really have to delete "iconic sound effects" based on part shortages? Come on. Deleting HK? Isn't that the base sound system? It's just going to come with no sound at all, or some no name basic system that's non standard in US build?

Seems like a great time to pick a built car already at the German port and just pay the $500 broker fee.

FWIW my dealer seems to be trying to weasel out of our buy, they keep reminding me that they could be getting $10k over sticker from someone else. And they stage these phone calls where I'm talking to the CA and someone says to them loudly "What? We are still doing this deal?" I don't know your dealer but I wonder if there's a chance they just want you to cancel.

Why are they bothering to build vehicles if they are missing these components? I thought the Air suspension was necessary due to the battery weight. Ridiculous. Sorry, this is beyond crappy.

Something seems not exactly right with the whole "BMW contacted us" thing from the dealership. This list essentially means that BMW can't build the car, and I'm not exactly convinced that they have stopped producing the iX 50. I expect clarification will follow, but seems a good time to reach out to the Customer Support number for a WTF, Over question - (800) 831-1117.

That is hard to believe, with all those deletes there isn't much left of the car. One can only hope there is a bit more to the story.

That nuts. What's left is a battery-powered econobox at BMW prices.

Cancel the order. If this delete list is for real not only are you losing out on everything that makes the IX special but you will suffer immeasurably on resale. If this were me I’d walk away…

I called another dealer that we have used for about 6-7 BMW purchases, and they sadly confirmed that any builds happening now and going forward, until further notification, will be missing most options and features.

Of course I cancelled my order and told my dealer that my current 2022 iX 50 has more features, options and goodies than this 2023 would have. All I would gain would be a more "fun" colour and laser lights.

This is ABSURD. Shame on BMW. I know and understand the part shortage problem is real, but BMW is taking this to the extreme. Porsche and Mercedes are not doing this, but Audi is...almost as severe as BMW.

I wonder if the shortage is only affecting the 50 since M60 seems intact for now.

I ordered an iX 50i about two weeks ago. At the time my SA wasn't able to add the UP2 to the order.

BMW removed it and replaced it with other options. I got the convenience package, driver assistance pro, and something called a Special Package-4.

It looks like it's missing things like the drive recorder, air suspension, heated arm rests, and soft close doors, from what I can tell.

Hoping we don't lose anything else but with all the craziness with the chip shortage, who knows. The overall price of the car is a couple grand cheaper than my previous config with the UP2 but I'm guessing that's because it's missing a few items from what I could see. I'm sure there's more missing but I can try giving it a closer look later.

They need to give people the option to hold their orders until things become available. Or maybe force dealer stock orders to have no options before sold cars.

If people decide to go forward hopefully they get a steep discount, I wonder what one of these that removes even standard features will run.

This is absurd. I already have my iX and yet this is making me loose faith in BMW and question my choice. If I were on the market for an EV today, I wouldn't be looking at BMW, which saddens me because the iX is such an awesome vehicle. Remove all these options and even standard features however, and the value proposition crumbles

Right?

How are they going to repair and maintain existing cars problems?

How many problems do these BMWs have that significantly impair the use, value or safety of the vehicle?

deutsch100 is welcome to have fun calling me out for naively bringing up lemon laws(If they apply.... if it's a thing.... I've never bought a car my whole life... go go Zipcar).

Yay..... I can cancel my order!!!! Now, if a delivered BMW has a problem, how long am I waiting for parts? hurr durrr

It seems like they still have parts but just a limited supply if the cuts aren't affecting the M60 or other BMW models (yet?).

Spot checking other model threads and it seems like delays and parts shortages are not unique to the iX. Lots of complaints about pushed back build dates especially. Nothing this severe reported yet that I can find.

Hard to knock BMW for supply constraints when the alternative is going to another brand, getting in another months long line and experiencing the same things. Might get lucky and find something in stock somewhere.

However, I would knock BMW for continuing to build cars with so many features stripped out. I mean I guess it's nice to have the option but when it cuts this deep you might as well just start pushing delays.

Yeah. I know GM was doing this too. It's quite frustrating since you aren't quite sure what you're getting.

I guess BMW, GM, and who knows what other manufacturers are trying to just dump what they can.

I may see if the M60 is experiencing such setbacks. It would suck to pay the extra money to get less range but if I can get it actually built to spec, it might be worth considering.

FWIW people are reporting that the M60 doesn't actually get much less range, if any. People driving 330+ miles on the freeway. Almost makes me wonder if BMW sandbagged the number to include some spirited driving.

Out Of Spec couldn't even drive the new Model X as far as they did the M60.
