I know it's just a hearing, but that will likely take a bit of time as it will be like a trial where the US will have to justify her being extradited. Nothing happens fast in Canadian courts.

The Chinese are still arresting Canadians.

A third Canadian citizen has been detained in China http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46613591

I'd like to echo Real Dodger and ask what you're envisioning? I'm not asking in a snarky way either... I'm genuinely curious.

I just saw that and it's exactly what the US should do. They got us into this mess.

I think the US has been more active on behalf of the Canadians who've been detained than our own government, and I'm not sure they "got us into it".....they've had a warrant for her arrest for several months now and there is evidence she's been aware of it and has been avoiding the US and arrest. They learned of her location and it was Canada. I don't believe that there was any malice towards us on the part of the US.

The US being the bullhorn while Canadian officials stand alongside using more diplomatic language is exactly the tactic Canada should be taking. We are caught in the middle between two large trading partners who are in the mids of a trade battle with each other.

The fact is, the US is doing something and were out of the gate very early on.

The first time the US did anything was at a joint press conference with Canada. As I said, Canada using the US as the heavy is a good tactic.

You also said "And the US is silent....", which isn't true. I certainly think the US should participate in the negotiations with China to free the Canadians being held, and it seems that they are.

You seem to have a real hate on for the US, actually Trump.

Don't forget, it's not the Canadians or Americans at fault. It's the Chinese. They have a horrific system of government.

Can you understand that I didn't see that news item before I posted that comment?

I don't have any hate whatsoever for our American neighbours so no need for you to try and stir the pot. The Trump administration is a different story.

in essence, the Chinese are holding 3 hostages. There is no other way to look at it. If the Canadians release her, they are encouraging this behavior in the future.

I'm not stirring the pot, although I do like to give it the odd stir. My point was that you posted your remark without taking a moment to inform yourself. It literally took me 30 seconds to find that story, so your remark was the one that was actually stirring the pot.

I did acknowledge the news article after you posted it. Forgive me for now doing my due diligence ahead of time.

My comment about you stirring the pot was directed at your comment about hating the US.

Not releasing Meng could lead to even more hostages, or do you have reason to believe the Chinese will stop at three? What Trudeau should do is demand that your DOJ expedite the extradition request. Who knows, he may have done this, but I doubt it.

It isn't the USA holding up the extradition, it's the Canadian court system.

China is just being completely unreasonable playing this tit-for-tat game.

Maybe we should revoke Mengs bail and put her in a jail cell.

For Canada, they need to raise the stakes. How do you deal with a bully? Hit him in the nose. The Canadians should summon the Chinese and publicly denounce their hostage taking. Perhaps eject a few embassy personnel.
