While 33kw is low, its still good enough for the average driver that doesn't need long range or has another vehicle. 300+ miles IMHO is not necessary. All EVs should come with a choice of 3 batteries which allows you to get the range you need, and then can keep the cost manageable. Only 1 of my cars allows me to go 300+ miles on fuel.
My i3 Rex with about 225 mile range is perfect, 3-4 days a week it does 150 miles a day, and the other days its about 20-100 miles. 435 miles would be more than a weeks driving for the average person. I think a battery that gives 150-250 miles in range supported by an extensive fast charging network is all that society really needs. Thats one of my main problems with Tesla, they brag about range, but they are also stuffing the biggest batteries in the car that no one really needs, unless your pushing the car hard because they program it so you can go faster than most people can handle and drain the battery faster defeating the efficiency of an EV.

Yes true, but almost everyone will have an ICE alternative in a family household for the near future. The average miles driven per day is in the low 30s so a 200 mile range fits the bill. Plus until there is a fully deployed fast charging network (many years down the road) I believe the hybrid like the Rex is the way to go.

The issue is EV recharging time, not range.
Regardless if you are content with a 225 mile range or not, recharging for at least 4hrs is not great at all for anybody. So a 300 mile+ battery range shall be the minimum goal for all EV manufacturers for what we have in charging infrastructure right now. You can drive your 225 miles and I can drive my 300+ miles without the 4hrs changing time (most probably several times) in between. The idea that an EV should be a secondary car to a gas car, much less offering different ranges, is simply a waste and shortsighted -and defeats the whole purpose of investing so much to have a future without gas cars. Once the infrastructure is full of fast chargers everywhere then we all can enjoy whatever mileage we need in the least amount to time to recharge. Like we all do but with gas cars. Quote:

With my 40 amp charging capability I would like to see the larger battery as a change out.

We can all agree the charging infrastructure is what needs to be focused on. It will be a long while before most familys don't have an ICE vehicle also, hybrids will be here for a long time probably.
It will be interesting what the offerings are in 5-10 years. Right now its all marketing and range anxiety. My 4yr old son was talking about cars on the way to school, my kids love my loud fast cars. I told him in many years when he starts driving that all cars will probably be electric like mommy's and he was upset lol Quote:

The benefits of a 300 mile range battery is that it will reduce the load on the public charging infrastructure. Imagine that you only have to charge once a week instead of 4 or 5. This could be done overnight at home rather than at a remote location. So instead of driving to work and taking up a charging station, which is currently getting harder and harder to do even here in LA, you could just charge at home. Public charging stations would be less crowded!
