The instrument cluster rattle can be fixed by tightening the two screws located at the top where the clear pastic meets the dash. Get a torx screw driver (I am not sure the exact size) and tighten the two screws very hard. You will notice the instrument housing is a lot stiffer now than before. Almost no movement upon pressure. While you are at it, you can tighten the two screws at the top of iDrive screen if your car is equipped with NAV.
Hope this works for you. Last edited by Luongo; 09-13-2005 at 10:50 AM.. |

coool, i started to have a slight rattle in the gauge cluster, i guess i will try this too.
i have another buzz/rattle coming from near the top vent / speaker area (non-idrive). not quite sure where it's coming from, seems like it might be inside the dash... |

I tried to tighten the instrument cluster screws this morning but they were already very tight. I was able to tighten the NAV screws a little, but I can't tell if that noise has gone away because the instrument cluster rattle is much louder.
I guess I'll just keep the volume up until I can get to the dealer. :-) |

The problem with rattles is that once you have heard them, you can hear them even through the music, and in an expensive car it is even more annoying! They are my pet hate!

while driving home today i realized that the gauge cluster rattle that i claim to be hearing is actually from the steering wheel! if i nudge the steering wheel left and right by a little bit, it makes a click/cracking noise. u guys with the gauge cluster rattle should nudge your steering wheel at a stop and see if it's coming from there.

Thankfully, no rattling here. Gotta be the "N" factor.

no, the sensational rattle is now coming from two places. One is near the gauge cluster and another is coming from the middle windshield area above my navigation.

Did any of you actually get this fixed (either by yourself or by the dealer)? I have been experiencing the same problem for a couple of months now and it's driving me nuts!

My dealer said they "lubed" something to make the cluster rattle go away. It did not. I find that if I press back and up on the plastic it gives me temporary relief.
I now have a rattle coming somewhere from the right-rear seat area. Driving on the interstate trying to bang around back there is not recommended. These will have to wait for my next trip to the dealer.
