Car ingress and Egress - technique?

After the installation of leather floor mats I notice my car exiting technique is now hazardous.

I am curious on a step by step guide of entering and exiting the car for different people. Is there an optimum that makes you look like less of an idiot?

Entry - reverse sit on sill, avoiding bumping head on door. Drop in spin round.

Exiting- due to my short legs I using my left leg and steering wheel as leverage, I lift my arse onto the sill, right leg out and lift other leg over and then a lambada manoeuvre to navigate the door. It is the left foot lever method that's causing me problems due to shoe choice and new leather floor mats.

ENTRY: I stick my right leg in and just sit down in the seat. Left leg slides over the sill in the process. Not really different to any other car, just a slightly wider step, and I have to watch my head so I don't hit it on the door.

EXIT: Left leg out and on the ground, then a spin-out motion where I pull my right leg out behind me, my left hand supports me on the sill while I do this.

I'm 1.88m, so I have fairly long legs. Maybe this helps a bit.

I tend to 'reverse' in.

Right-hand drive in the UK, basically turn with my back to the car almost and pop my left leg into the car, weight on my right leg then kind of fall in shifting weight to my left in the process. I don't sit on the sill but tend to brush over it.

Getting out involves kind of rolling out whilst lifting my weight off the seat aided by my right hand pushing down on the sill.

Probably look like a proper twat but hey ho

Right Hand Drive.

I was actually shown this technique by the salesman. Lol

Bum in first, then pull both feet carefully over the sill.

Exit is reverse, but as previous post, better to put right hand on sill to help push up. Always walk to the rear or you'll smack your head!

I'm 1.79 cm , taller than the fridge by two centimeters
Entering :
I sit same as any other car but just lower my head while entering the car . Sometimes I my left foot hit the sides of the steering wheel and I hate that . I spray cologne and wipe the steering wheel although my shoes are clean that don't matter .More often that not ,my shoes swipe the door sills which might be a common failure
Exiting :
Left leg out first ,push my head rearwards to avoid hitting the bottom of the door when it's fully swing open .No foot interference with the steering wheel unlike entering procedure.
I have noticed that when I enter and exit the car with my jacket on ,I gotta be extra careful to avoid hitting things

I'm 71. (Years, not cms.) I need all the help I can get. But after two years of this I can get in and out pretty easily. I usually grab the roof to get out. Getting in is just folding myself, sitting on the sill and dropping in. Strangely, getting out of the right side is a breeze, essentially a step out. Which is strange since I have ridden horses all my life and mount on the left side.

Yoga helps.
Or gymnastics training.
Especially when exiting the rear seats.

I think BMW should include two months of Yoga sessions with each purchased car. For you and your passengers.

I own no garage queens. If it's in my driveway, it's been ridden hard and put away wet. ...and now, with a light crust of Maine road salt.

As a S1 Exige driver, I find the i8 a cinch to get in and out of. It's all relative

I genuinely LOL'd at your first line. Great sense of humour! Even more so after reading some of the previous posts...

Getting in: Starting with back to the door opening, swing right leg in with right hand on the interior door handle, then sit down and swing left leg in in one motion.

Getting out: swing out left leg while reaching for interior door handle. Pull back (not down) on the door handle while pushing up with left elbow in door sill. Use left leg and right arm to stand up.

Actually, pretty easy and I'm 66, not tall and not thin.

I think most people don't use the interior door handle enough. The size, shape, and beefiness of the handle lead me to believe the BMW engineers intended it for two purposes: open and close the doors and help occupants get in and out of the car. The trick is to give yourself leverage by pulling back toward the car—like toward the steering wheel—not down.

At any rate, the i8 is way easier to get in and out of than my E36 race car.
