Garage List
Summertime range

So, I'm finally back from several weeks of global travels, the weather has turned nice, and I get to commute again - in the i8. Yay!

There is a significant difference in range in this weather. In the winter, even with careful driving and outside of rush hour, I couldn't really do the 33 km (20.5 mi) run to and from work on full electric. I always missed between 2 and 5 km, depending on conditions on the drive. But I had done 40 km (25 mi) in the past.

Happy to say, in the current mild temps we have, in the 70s (F), the range is right back up. 35 km (22 mi) no problem. Getting all the way home with a bit of charge to spare. It may be a combination of ambient temperature and the fact that the days are longer and I don't have to drive with the main headlights on.

Anybody else with this kind of experience?

I'm only getting 14 on dash at full charge but more like 10-11 in reality. Then again only about 50 F here in UK right now. Full tank plus charge gets me about 290m

I just noticed your thread Aye-eight.

What a difference in temperature makes on the range of the car.

It's started getting warmer up here, and i've seen my range increase by 30%

It's about 17.5 degrees Celsius today, and was shocked to see what the range was when i got in the car this morning.

The colder temperatures definitely take a hit on the battery/range.

Similar experience here. Huge difference in efficiency for batteries in the ambient temp range we are used to.
