Yeah so what year 911 Turbo? It was 20 years ago the last time a Porsche Turbo did something like 12.5 in the quarter mile. Any model since 2010 has done the quarter mile in mid-high 10's at nearly 130mph. The acceleration difference is so massive between these two cars that in any kind of race it would seem as if the i8 was literally standing still.

Last year, they recorded a 0-60 run in 3.6 secs and eclipsed the 1/4 mile in 12.1 secs @ 116 MPH. Pretty impressive!

The accel of an i8 and any Porsche Turbo made in this decade couldn't be more different. The Porsche Turbo has lag. The i8 has none. The Porsche Turbo at WOT will press you back in your seat in mind-numbing ferocity and pull brutally hard to redline. The i8 has a bit (not a lot) of initial torque so it presses you back in your seat (gently) and then completely dies off above 4,500 RPM. Sorry the author is wrong and that's why I pointed it out.

While the i8 is beautiful and revolutionary it isn't enough for its price tag in my view. As stunning as the i8 is I'd take the 911 every time, if I'm spending that kind of money IDC about road tax or fuel efficiency. If the i8 was 25% cheaper maybe it'd be a different story |

People, take a look at this car. This is probably the most beautiful car you will see in 2016. You all are just talking about the acceleration match with the Porsche 911 and jump to the cost. But, don't you see the interior? i8 takes comfort into a whole new level. And of course, don't forget how amazing it looks on the roads.

I must say the dual engine Is ideal for my line work I use it during the harvest and with the edrive I avoid to disturbing any of the permanent resident that are not on my list. Will be swapping the current exhaust for titanium and raising the horsepower to 413hp then I will go after the restless Porsche diehard expect 0-100kmh at 2.9sec

I don't think the i8 is a one size fits all car, but if you can afford it and other cars it's an amazing addition to a line up. Would I sell my Ferrari for it? No. but in addition to my Ferrari it adds a great juxtaposition in my lineup. I think next spring I'm going to pick up a Challenger Hellcat for Pittsburgh and sell the S550. Talk about contrasting cars with the i8, XC90 and hellcat.
If you can only afford one car and you want to check every box get an Audi RS7 or something. But I promise anyone who doesn't have one, take an i8 in public once, see people's reactions, and you'll realize just just special i8 ownership is. |
