So someone trying to sell a "used" BEV has an immediate $7,500 disadvantage vs a buyers option to purchase new, correct?

Well, I guess that's as good as being a Vehicle Architect for 8 years... lol In a nutshell, yes you can fit enough batteries in the same 'space', but it wont be a 5-series, and it wont be the same price. Tesla's aren't cheap for a reason. Last edited by baldyloxx; 09-06-2017 at 10:59 AM.. |

Right, but who's going to buy your "used" BEV when they can get a new one with a $7,500 tax credit?

Just depends on the price, and whether or not the Dealer discloses the tax incentive. Because all dealers are forthcoming with the details on a 'used' vehicle, right?..
You would be surprised at how many customers that aren't even aware of such incentives. They just want an EV. |

BEV and REx both qualify for the full $7500 tax credit. If you lease, it goes to the leasing company, some leasing companies rebate the credit to the person leasing the vehicle. Quote:

Most dealers I approach don't even mention the incentives till you (the customer) bring it up. The point is, there are some customers that are unaware. Or, some that don't want to pay 'new' price all together.. There is a good market for 'like new' EVs First question they ask "Are you looking to buy New, Used or a Lease" You answer will determine the information they give up front.. It's 'business'.. We trolls here on the forums discussing the ins-n-outs are the minority, believe it or not. |

When the incentives first came about people were buying them up, only to let them sit and sell with low miles.. FACT. And people bought these low mileage cars for next to new price.. Easy way to make $1500 even if you only get $39,000 on your $46,000 car with 1,000mi. (investment to some)
This was years ago in 2011.. today, yes, the depreciation is much greater. Last edited by baldyloxx; 09-06-2017 at 07:01 PM.. |

The $7500 tax credit finishes when the i3 hits 200,000 units sold in the US.

No it's not. It is per manufacturer, or else Tesla would release the Model S1 followed by the Model S2 and so on whenever 200k units get sold.

Plus I think that's for pure electric so the i3 is still the only pure electric they make till the mini and other pure electrics come out. The others (330e) are hybrids and don't think they qualify. I know teslas close to 200000 cars, they may even hit that at the end of this year, so many model 3 owners Won't be getting their tax credit that many are banking on. |

Wrong still. It's anything with a battery of at least 5 kWh; that is for the minimum rebate. The rebate increases by $470 for each extra kWh up to a maximum rebate of $7500. The 330e has around 9 kWh and the x5 has around 11 kWh (going from memory) so BOTH count towards BMWs total of 200k.

Yes, Hybrids qualify as well.. Basically all 'Clean Air Vehicles' vehicles, but two different categories
I hate these stickers because they screw up the paint.. why not have a decal on the license plate? Whoever thought of this one obviously are not car enthusiasts.. |

Tesla lease expired. Lack of other electric family haulers. And due to changes in currency conversion rates, a Tesla have increased about 50% in base price here. So at 3 times the base price of a BMW G31, not really in my price range anymore...
And the 5-series is a much better car in total, I just wished it would come with an electric drive instead. |
