We already had a poll... It was the Presidential election. American voters proved that we want a wall by electing the candidate that promised to build one.

Funny to hear Democrats profess that their midterm election victories delivered a political mandate for their initiatives, while simultaneously stating that President Trump's victory contains no such mandates.

You repeat this line a lot and I always think it makes a HUGE assumption. All 59mm voters are unanimous in their desire for a wall? I know many anti-Hillary voters who pulled the lever for Trump just because he wasn't Hillary...not becuase they agreed with him.

In any event, the "mandate" vote isn't a good way to run a government. I assume that you were very much against Obamacare. An invalid argument of the time was "shutup, voters mandated this". I voted for Obama and disagreed with the way he went about the healthcare reform act, however, he was a much better option than McCain/Palin.

I hear what you're saying... A vote for a candidate doesn't directly translate to an endorsement for every single one of the candidate's policies. That's fair... But the concept of an election dictating a political mandate predates my existence. In other words; I didn't invent this concept.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Red vs. Blue. 2016 Presidential Election map...victory by county/parish.

Take note that all the blue is populated areas of the country. The red is almost entirely not. Think about that and the fact that Trump lost the popular vote by MILLIONS.

Should have been done 50 years ago.

It will be built in record time when a congressman / congresswoman family member is killed by one.

Elections are not won by land area.

Not exactly a thousand words.

Tsa agents are not getting paid and I'm pretty sure those guys who do background checks on commercial pilots aren't either but sure, a wall will save you all.

Again, no one is saying a wall alone will fix things. The only reason the government is closed is because the Democrats do not want to give the president something they have all mentioned wanting themselves in the past. Itís not about doing what their constituents want either.

Just my observation.

Well, Obama came into office in 2009 and I was specifically commenting on the first term. His second term was far worse. McCain/Palin's economic plans were ringing completely hollow. Austerity in the face of a steep economic downturn is a proven way to extend the mess. Also, Palin as his VP pick signaled that he was not in control of his own campaign, or at the very least was not making the correct decisions.

Obama was far from perfect in that time, but he was the better option of the two in my opinion.

In your opinion..........

I called it in 2008, as far as who Obama was. Very gifted orator, who didn't know what he was doing and had very little experience, and never really held a real job. Looking at McCain policy positions, and Obamas record, leaves me a little doubt who would've been the better president in 2008.

In my opinion, just as your comment is in your opinion. Thats what we do here.

The nation was at an inflection point after 8 years of Republican leadership with the worst economic down turn in many folks' lifetimes, so the Obama winning the election was no surprise to most (or at least it shouldn't have been).

I liked McCain.

Until he ran for President. Unfortunately you saw his policy begin to shift to become a candidate that the GOP wanted.

And Palin was the absolute death blow.
