12 volt battery
Just wondering if anyone has a good guess on keeping the 12 volt battery charged if the car is not driven for an extended period of time. The owners manual has some conflicting information contained in it. In one place the manual states that if you are not going to drive the car for a period of time to leave the car plugged into the high voltage charging station, with no other info if doing that also keeps the 12 volt battery charged. In another place the manual states that you should either remove the 12 volt battery and store it in a cool dry place or connect it to a trickle charger.
My question is... will the high voltage connection also keep the 12 volt battery charged? Or should the hood be opened ( by the dealer) ??? To place a trickle charger on the 12 volt battery? Thanks |

I am not sure what is accurate, but I had heard that if you leave it plugged in AND occasionally initiate pre-conditioning, then it charges the 12V battery.
I'm not sure that makes sense though, as it only pre-conditions for an hour I believe. |

That sounds interesting...but I believe you are right about the one hour pre conditioning. I don't think that would work very well for an extended period of non use of the car. A month or two.
Thanks. |
