its not about race- just have the government take money from those that earn it and give it to those that do not work for it - thats fair. thats kind..... and its considerate. and it makes us feel good.

I propose a tax return that one can check a box for the liberal tax fund or not:

check the box and you can then donate 1/3 your income to the poor suckers that dont work. you will then feel much better about yourself.

selfish capitalists like me can choose not to check the box and invest our money as we see fit- its fair and its free choice.

what do you think TAXES are? It's spreading the wealth around!

Do you make more than $250K per year? If not, shut up.

Taxes should be for essential government functions...national defense...roads and bridges...

Not "refundable" tax credits for the lower tax credits...the government taking my money to give to another citizen makes me not want to work....I can live on $250,000 per year...but if you tax me less...the government will actually get more gross revenue (30% of $600,000 is more than 39% of $250,000)

The dems are right....I can afford to pay a higher tax percentage...BUT...I can also afford to choose not to....and if I work less...I need less employees

A very wise friend told me...sometimes you are better off sittin' at home drinking tea...(than out working)

you should re-word that:

you forgot about those that dont make that much but they work hard and strive to make $250k a year? or wish to open a small business and be successful and make over 250.

hmmmm - work hard and get taxed more? or be a slacker and get a tax rebate.

Yes, but obama wants to do MORE than that. His whole, "95%" will get a tax cut is completely bull! Do you realize that 44% of the population already don't pay ANY income taxes? do you know what obama wants to do for the 44%? He wants to cut THEM a check!

So, explain to me how increasing taxes on one group, and then writing checks to another group is not wealth redistribution? Explain to me how this isn't a socialist tax and economic policy? Explain to my how wealth redistribution is somehow going to yield wealth creation? THATS what our economy needs, we need to create wealth, not just spread it around.

What kind of education do you have in business and economic affairs and policies? Your posts lead me to believe you have very little.

Taxes are the revenue the government uses to provide civil services. The proposal to use the tax system to take money from one person and give it to another directly is not even condoned in our Constitution. It is a VERY liberal interpretation of the concept of "for the common good of the people" (or something to that effect) that it has been allowed.

Do you make over $250k / year? If not, why do you want a handout from those that do? Are you lazy?

My dad's a small business owner and he's terrified of what his taxes are going to be, and he's trying to become semi-retired (he's 61). If he starts getting taxed more he's going to have to continue to work harder to keep up with where he was going to be.

Here's a novel idea. Increase taxes for those who make over $250K, etc, BUT get rid of welfare and pay all the police officers and fire fighters, teachers more instead. I don't think too many would have a problem with that.

I still don't understand why money should be taken from those who work, and given to those that don't even pay taxes.

I may be wrong, but the idea of McCain/Palin attacking Obama on "spread the weath around" comment seems like a doubled edged sword. Is it possible that some of the more modest earners in the GOP might like to see some of that shared wealth head their way?

Are you trying to say that more "modest" earners should feel entitled to another persons money? If so, that philosophy fits more in with a country like Russia than the USA.

I'd have to disagree. People didn't seem to mind receiving a stimulus check in the mail earlier this year. Technically they're borrowing it against their future taxes, but for the wealthy... they still have to pay for those stimulus checks despite not seeing a penny.

Everyone has their game face when it comes to politics, but part of me thinks those more "modest" earners secretly wouldn't mind having some of the wealth spread their way.

I simply can't see someone who earns $30,000 a year being outraged at the idea that they might be getting some money from people earning $300,000+ a year.

Am I advocating for the spread of wealth? No. I simply want to highlight that the McCain/Palin strategy might only influence the wealthier undecided voters, which is a small percentage. And that they may risk convincing the more "modest" earners that maybe Barack Obama plans to give them more money.

Not that any would be coming my way, but I don't want a handout. I'll work for mine, thanks.

Are you saying adding taxes to higher more gov't workers is a good way to create jobs?

no Barack is saying that. bigger gov is better. also I guess he thinks the GOV can create jobsbetter than private industry. NOT the case based on the government employees I deal with. EPA is a fraud. AQMD is a joke. they all waste tax payers money. county workers = FAIL. post office = snoooze. DMW= FAil x 1,000,000.

Agreed. And remember, gov't jobs do not lead toward improving the economy. With rare exception do gov't jobs contribute to the GDP of an economy. So, they sap productive dollars in taxes, then spend them in a way that does not further the economy.

Governmentium

A major research institution (MRI) has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest chemical element yet known to science. The new element has been tentatively named Governmentium. Governmentium has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of governmentium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would normally take less than a second. Governmentium has a normal half-life of three years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause some morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to speculate that governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as Critical Morass.
