@Carac & @drlonline Really mixed fortunes for you both. I must admit with all these debacles (of which there seems less in the UK than in the US) the 'appeal' of the i8 is waning a little (to me) I'll see how I feel about it when I have my dealer's demo car for a few days towards the end of this month.

Having said that, I hope you both your i8s arrive really soon so you can start to enjoy them.

Status 193 at the port of exit. We'll see how long this takes.

Hopefully they'd would put i8s in priority but they'll probably just treat them like any other car.

BMW NA just called me, I had left a message with them a few days ago. They said THERE IS NO HOLD ON ANY OF THE US i8 CARS, we will receive them as they are produced and shipped.

So I have to wonder what is meant by the "release" hold noted on our status. Unfortunately for me, my car has been in the same status (155, completed assembly/QC check) for almost 4 weeks now with no change. I wish there were someone in Germany that I could talk to in order to find out what is going on with my car.

my car is also in same status for two weeks now

I think it means they are fixing any QC issues, etc, and batching/queuing up for surface shipment to the port and then staging to get onto a boat.

I bet we see movement no later than Monday in terms of status change. I CERTAINLY HOPE SO! There are boats leaving Bremerhaven on Tue Sep 2 and Wed Sep 10, which arrive in US on Sep 22 and Sep 27. Keeping our fingers crossed!!

If they don't make those boats, the next ones leave on Sep 15, arriving Oct 2.

Someone else I talked to said the "release" hold is being used for cars that needed corrections in Quality Check and are awaiting an "all-clear" from a QC supervisor.

Mine is still 150 (Production Started ) for 4 weeks and no change !
Are they scouring the Bavarian countryside for hides ? I read somewhere it takes 20 hours to build the car !
Dealer and BMWNA not able to cast any light.

FWIW my car was at 150 for nearly a month. Then went to 155 within a couple days.

There's a thread that has the official email address for the plant and apparently they are pretty prompt about getting back to you. I'll try and find it.

Yahoo!! Today is a glorious day, as the hotline status for my car finally changed (after almost 4 weeks) from "vehicle production is complete and is awaiting release to a carrier" to "your vehicle has been released to a carrier and is awaiting transport to the port of exit". Hopefully the extended time in QC was spent getting out any and all gremlins.

jwestfield, you should be next to get this good news.

I think it was 2-3 days transit from Release to port of exit. Chance of hitting the upcoming ships.

This is my first post, so please go easy. I went into my local BMW dealer a couple of days ago to talk about placing an order. I was told they would put me on a waiting list.

I guess my impression is that we cannot even place an order for MY2015 yet. Does anyone have any sense of when we might be able to do that. I know that BMW sold out long ago for 2014 (which was a limited run) and that BMW has said that the volume will be greater for 2015. I just don't know if those have all been placed or what.

The dealer also could not say whether BMW will offer European Delivery option for the i8 now or ever.

Any insights would be appreciated.

At least BMW Welt can't deliver your i8 now. They don't have capabilities I was told. I tried to fix delivery from Welt and event got price for that, but during process it turned out to be impossible. Maybe later on it works. If ED needs Welt delivery, at least now it's impossible.

Thanks, Pitkis. It's interesting and maybe encouraging they even considered that channel. Who knows, maybe it will open up eventually.

I've been told a big reason is the different charging standards. Different plugs, etc.

And my dealer has a wait list going into 2016 models, just deposits until allocations come in.

Hmm. I thought the point of the ED program (at least for the US) was that you ordered the US version and simply picked it up in Germany.

Anyway, my dealer took my name down but won't/can't (?) take a deposit even though I offered.

Today's the day. East-coast bound ship arriving in Bremerhaven today, leaving tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Looks like west-coast is Saturday. Here's hoping everyone's gets loaded this week.

mine still says 'prod complete and waiting to be released to carrier' . . .

. . . so I doubt mine will end up on a ship this week.

I think the earliest I can be hopeful for (and it, too, would indeed be a stretch) would be the sep 10 departure from Bremerhaven, arriving in Brunswick GA on Sep 27. (actually it looks like there are two WWL ships leaving Germany that day).

Made it onto the INDEPENDENCE II bound for New York. Set to arrive Sept 17th. Looks like there's a good chance I'll see it before October.
