Between steering feel and cargo space, this is disappointing in advance of driving it myself. He reveals the cargo is 40"x35"x18" and 68" long if seats folded. I was hoping the 4 Series would straddle the interior space better between the prior GC and GT, where I have 42"x39"x18, and 75" if seats folded. That, plus the side shot of him trying to sit in the back are concerning.

His comment of inadequate steering, and air suspension only in rear, caught my attention.

I do like the audio(likely synthesized) feedback upon accelerating.

The 30kWh per 100 miles is not bad given the weight of the car.

He noted that chassis rigidity, driving dynamics and handling esp. at corners are ahead of Tesla.

I'm less concerned about the boot length measurement Thomas made; it entirely depends on where he had the seats. The side by side dimension of the new 4 series G26 vs i4 M50 shows a few minor dimension differences.

Differences:
Drive headroom slightly different - 9mm (.35") less in i4
Rear track - 17mm (.67") less in i4
Front track - 6mm (.24") less in i4
Overall height - 6mm (.24") more in i4
All other dimension are the same, including the boot capacity seats up (470 l) or down (1290 l).

The G26 has 10 litres (.35 cu ft) less than the previous F36 4 series GC, or 2.1% less with the seats up, 0.8% less with the seats down - so fractionally less, but in day-to-day use, pretty much the same. The main i4 difference will be foot space in the back to cater for the batteries.

Compared to the F34 GT, the G26 has quite a lot less rear space and boot space, but the F34 GT had a longer wheelbase 64mm (2.5"), rode higher and therefore had compromises elsewhere.

Yes, quite correct, but I'm spoiled now for cargo space and the ease of loading a bike with wheels in place (pre-quick release hub) or everything possibly needed at Costco, or all the luggage at the airport when the kids come into town. I had first hoped for the iX3 before that was canceled. The new iX is over the target spend and probably too much size. The GT really hit the "sweet spot" for people and stuff. So sorry BMWNA killed the wagons.

Agree on all these points. The iX is too pricey and would be a very tight fit in my slightly undersized garage. We have a 340GT and size wise hits all the targets. We got the GT to replace the 540iT. I know it's a marketing decision, but disappointed wagons don't make it to the states.

I hear that - once you've had that space, hard to give it up. Got the wrong badge, but maybe an Audi Q4 or VW ID.4 or the ID.6 when it comes out.

A VAG product? Never again...been there/done that/got screwed all the way up to "corporate" with an A6.

I'd look at Genesis EVs, maybe even a Lyriq. But need hands-on with the i4 in the showroom/on the street before deciding.

There is also Lexus EV in 2022, although I am somewhat reserved about the brand given bad experience among friends/colleagues.

BTW this clip @6:45 has xls and data of upcoming Lexus PHEV/EV offerings.

In regards to that light steering feeling, I wonder if he went and changed the steering to sport in the menus.
You can still have the comfort option set in sports mode.

Depends on what he meant, but all in all most new cars with this electric steering feel is kinda lifeless i do miss the old hydraulic steering of old but i understand why they moved away from them.

It has been a while sense i felt a new car witch gives proper feedback through the steering wheel, but that how it is you gain some you loose some.

I drove a 2022 740 for a month.

I set the steering to "sport" in all modes.
