BMW said no to a good faith repair - it would appear that you need to be a regular/loyal customer that has spent a lot of money with them for you to be considered for this type of thing. One of the earlier responders hit the nail on the head... it was always a high likelihood that they would not do this. So, I decided I needed to get the car out of the official BMW service centre quick. I spoke to the store manager. Complained that I had accumulated nearly £1,000 on investigations alone. He was gracious and understanding - took 50% off. I was quite lucky. I started ringing around independant garages and found a guy who spent a good 20 minutes of his time with no expectation just advising me. In the end, I decided to convince him to take a look. It turns out, it was just the wiring that needed to be repaired... you don't know how relieved I am. The car started, faults all cleared and battery fully charged. The seller's are still not accepting liability even though I got an independent assessment which outlines prior repairs having been done. They have however, as a good will gesture offered to contribute to some of the costs but that's on a "without prejudice" basis which I can understand. So... overall, in the space of a few weeks I went from staring a £18,000 bill in the face to (roughly speaking): BMW roadside assistance: £175 BMW service centre: £500 Indy garage: £700 Independent assessor: £275 TOTAL: £1650 Also, managed to get an extended warranty from a seperate provider at £85 per month. All in all, things are looking good. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!! |
