BMW Display Key
Well my i8 went back off lease and I'm sincerely sorry to see it go. I have a BMW Display Key that was coded to work with my car and is in absolutely perfect condition; not a mark on it anywhere and comes with a custom leather cover that I had made exclusively for the key...
Can this key be re-programmed to another i8 or is it simply bricked now and useless? |

As far as I can tell, it is bricked. BMW no longer sells them, and I wanted to get a used one for mine, and it is a no go to have it reprogrammed. Sad.

I just bought a display key for my 2018 M760i, back in the summer of 2021. At what point did they "no longer sell them?" I do have an i8, not that I want the display key, but am curious when they stopped selling them.

Now because of the 3G sunset I really want to buy one and all dealers in my area said : "it's not available for your car" |

Makes you wonder if there could be an App developed that mimics what the key did.
The other alternative is to hope for a retrofit of the SIM in our cars but what I have heard it doesn't look like it…. 7 years later and the once Halo car is just so out of date, what a joke. |

The only way I could order a display key through the dealership and have it coded was via their European catalog. Dealer promised it would be coded to VIN. Hoping for the best, otherwise it’s a $600 paperweight.

Unfortunately I have no way to confirm other than trying it. My dealer said it was a 30 minute programming job though.
A friend has asked to buy my spare (blocked) DisplayKey and plans to try it. But he also needs a receiver for it in his i8 as it is an old model, so he is looking into that first. |
