Am I the first owner to track the i8?

Looking good jcpca356! How was the experience in the i8 in comparison to the other cars you've driven on the track?

Great to see you out on the track. There are several others that have tracked their i8s. I took delivery Oct 1, 2014 and was on the track 2 weeks later. Have now been on the track 3 times. I was impressed by the overall performance.

Looking good, it was great meeting you at Autobahn. I need to make it a habit to keep the helmet in this car to join you on the track.

See you again this summer somewhere in Chicago.

Even with stock pads and tires, it handled beautifully. Track out was a joy since gobs of immediately available torque was available without any turbo lag (impressive). Very neutral handling due to 4wd. It was very hard to get it loose so I didn't try too hard (too expensive of a car). It felt very planted, like all of its weight was on the bottom. It felt big in the beginning (I'm used to my 911) but after a couple of laps, I gained more confidence and passed a few cars.

I did run out of battery after 6 laps (it runs on gas only) but the track had the quick charger so I didn't miss the next session.

Good to meet you as well. i8 is a decent car at the track. Not made for it but as an owner, ya gotta try it at least once

It's pretty much up there in the handling department.
I tracked a company car( NOT MINE) last week and hauled in a M6.

Not only is this THE most stunning looking of the decade it handles like a real pro I have nothing but admiration for BMW. Simply stunning in all departments

I autocrossed mine last weekend. It (and I) did respectably well.

I need to get to know the car better to understand how to best drive it like that. I only have 3000 miles on it so far.

I own no garage queens. If it's in my driveway, it's been ridden hard and put away wet. ...and now, with a light crust of Maine road salt.

Seems it can still keep its composure while on the track. Disappointed to learn thought that the i8 wasn't able to regenerate enough juice to keep the motor going.

Yes, the electric meter goes to --- and it gives juice for a while but there's a point when it gives out. It ran out when I began the session with 1/2 full electric. But when I fully charged it (thanks to track, as it had the quick charger available), I had plenty to finish the session. No issues there.

Thanks for the specifics. Relieved to know that the rapid depletion was a result of starting off with 1/2 full electric charge.
