One of the last- my new '21 i3s BEV
The lease was up on my 2018 i3 in Protonic Blue REX and I fell in love with owning one of these little spaceships. Once I heard that production was winding down, with no direct successor (hatchback B segment type vehicle), I knew I wanted to place an order for one of the last model year i3's. Coming from not only a REX but a non-S to an S BEV has been awesome. I love the increased range from my older model and I don't seem to be missing the REX yet, however, range anxiety hits a little different, but even though it isn't the most range per dollar ratio, for my use it couldn't be more perfect.
I definitely notice the bump in horsepower and torque, and nice suspension and body control improvements. It feels like truly an e-hot-hatch now and the hallmarks of RWD, carbon fiber chassis, build quality and interior design, I still love this thing. The only bummer due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage is that I was unable to get HK sound (but hey, blue seatbelts ); oh well- base is fine for me in this car. Got the windows tinted and next up will be ceramic coating, as this color shows dirt and dust way more quickly than my old one; and who knows, this might be my new keeper once the lease is done. SPECS: i3s BEV 2021 Imperial Blue Metallic/Vernasca Dark Truffle/Dark Oak Wood Tech Package Moonroof Blue Seatbelts Heat Pump Black wheels (style 431) Here's some initial pics: |

Nice. I previously leased 2014 and 2017 BEVs. Returned the 17 in June 2020 without replacing due to open-ended work from home. Figured I’d get my next one when I needed to commute again. The US production end brought me back into the market. Had just about resigned myself to a CPO when I found a 21 BEV base with my preferred options—Giga+tech+HK—in transit to a nearby dealer. Agreed on a purchase price and gave them a deposit. They tell me it’s been dispatched from the port and should arrive in a couple days. Hopefully I can take delivery as soon as it’s prepped.

Ours is also rather new, and I don't seem to have the "hidden" instrument panel menu that older cars have. When I hold the reset button for a long time, I just get some icons for various service reset. Is it working on yours?
Edit: Never mind, I found the hidden menu. Turns out our car has 38.9 kWh net battery capacity. Last edited by ovekvam; 10-12-2021 at 03:02 AM.. |

For a second I thought I had written this post originally! We are almost exactly in the same situation as yours!
We have a 2018 non-S REX and the lease was ending in August. Wife and I are so in love with the car that we knew we wanted a second one after this. When we heard about end of production for US, we contacted our CA and after lots of trying he was able to find us a production slot for a 2021 i3s REX. The original production date got delayed a bit but finally after 4 months from contacting CA, our new baby has just arrived at the dealer and we're gonna pick it up next week! We wanted to again have the REX model because of our range anxiety and lucked out to find an available slot but weren't particularly interested in S but had no other choice. We actually wanted to lease this new one and then buy it at the end of the lease but unlike the current one we have, we couldn't get the HK sound system. I'm anxiously waiting to try the new one out but already think we won't keep it after lease because of HK. @440iCP do you notice the difference between HK and base system? |

Got her ceramic coated. Love the way it brought out a bit more depth to the Impreial Blue. I'm glad I got another i3, I couldn't imagine not having one!

Still loving my BlackBerry! Not sure I can get rid of this one once the lease is up (I have about a year and a half left). Nothing else quite like it! Especially in the US market. BMW obviously doesn't care to create a successor too quickly-- and the iX1 could have been a nice compromise, but it's overall too conventional and I have no need for an electric car like i4, 5, 7 or X. I am fortunate enough to use the i3 only when I please, but I love the fact that it can be easily used as a daily, and has been in the past for me. As a real good daily, I think the REX is transformative, but for pure performance and "MegaCity" usage, the BEV is amazing and perfectly adequate for me. BMW really HAD to do better with the MINI-e range, that is a bit pathetic, especially as new model based on our drivetrain. Lame. But even then, it's FWD (love MINI just showing i3 uniqueness), front motored, lower range, conventional construction and styling.
With it's super ahead of it's time construction, cult-like ownership community, driving performance, and dimensions of the i3s, it makes me wanna hold onto my SpaceBubble BEV even more. It's the best hatch I could ever want, parked next to a VW GTI of course. Last edited by M4_ZMT; 04-22-2023 at 11:55 AM.. Reason: He's a BEV, not REX. Correction made. |

Wow, thanks everyone for the compliments! I feel the same way! Closest thing you can get to a Carbon Black i3s haha. ALSO, I mistakenly said REX in previous post...I meant BEV. My previous '18 i3 was a REX but this babe is pure electric.
