European range estimation models differ from those employed in the US, thus the difference in the published range #s on both sides of the Atlantic. BMW can advertise 186 mile range for UK market, yet only 180 miles for the US i3 REX.

Iīve heard pretty much the same. the "original" had a 20 km range, second generation battery has 30 km range. Next up, two years from now an LCI will arrive, this will have a 40 km range. Thatīs what iīve heard.

Yea the whole reason for the reverse compatible nature of the batteries was so they didn't have to warehouse the older less range batteries or old tech so they only had to house or store the newer higher range batteries and that the higher range battery could work if needed for warranty purposes in the smaller range I3 and was just coded to offer the less range.

The upgradability is a nice bonus when you want to change them all for the higher range.

There are reports that a complete i3 redesign has been green-lit within BMW AG, but it's not expected until 2019-2020 time frame, or thereabouts. Details are largely unknown, beyond expectations of ever increasing range:

I'm now reading full redesign won't be until 2022. If that's the case, 2019 refresh seems plausible.
