It's crazy how many people want R34's because of the F&F franchise.
It will probably be pretty damn common.

I would go with an S15 in 2024. Better Styling than R34's imo and will probably be more rare in states when both are legal to import.

I thought it was more because of Godzilla. That car took the auto world by storm and enough people that thought they knew about cars started asking, "what is this?". Godzilla has become iconic without the F&F, which has made people interested in the line IMO.

Kind of like the GC8 STis.

Asinine, I know, luckily after countless hours on the phone with the state registration legislators I was able to have them call the branch manager at another DMV and talk them into signing the title paperwork. So long story short, even if you have all the legal documentation, you are still at the mercy of willfully ignorant government employees who will work harder to get out of doing work than putting in the lesser effort to be helpful and reasonable.

Regardless, I have my plates and temp title now, meaning this car will be infinitely easier to sell/register in the future.
You must LOVE that DMV office.

Congrats! Super cool car!!!

I thought Godzilla nickname started with GT-R32's when it domiated JTCC & Bathurst 1000.

I learned about all the Japanese cars from Initial D and Gran Turismo 3.

Maybe you should import the GC8 22B STi 2023. It came out in 1998. That thing is badass.

Yeah, that particular DMV is quite possibly the worst in the country.

Good info thanks! #1 priority in 2023 is R34 GTR

What's all this talk about waiting for the R34. I've seen a couple here locally and knew a guy with one here 10 years ago (sold his heavily modded FD for it).

If it was that easy, we would be seeing a lot more R34's in the US.

It depends on your state and where he got the R34 from.

There were around ~20(forgot actual number) Motorex Skylines(R32-R34)s that were grandfathered fully federalized and exempt from being seized. These go for around ~100k iirc.

There was also Kaizo Unibody's where they where they were skylines that were shipped to US disassembled and rebuilt here as a unibody kit car. Most of these were ultimately seized by government.

Some people also register imported right hand vehicles in FL, VA, and AZ. Not sure how these are brought into states, maybe through Mexico or Canada at first?
I've seen an S15 in Socal with AZ plates.

Another way is to register the vehicle as show and display vehicle where you would only be able to put 2500 miles on the vehicle per year on public roads, but the government only gives out limited quantities of this registration per year.

I've been thinking about trying for one of the display vehicle registrations for R34 but am sure it will be an astronomic ass pain to accomplish.

Update:
Replaced wheels with Nismo LM-GT2s, put on HKS Hiper-D coilovers, removed tint, installed Impul shift knob, replaced all speakers with new Pioneers, and did a whole slew of paint/chrome/interior repairs...she is as good as new now!

the appeal stems from the fact they were never available here, IMO.

I'm sure they're good to drive and all.....but the weirdness of them on US soil is the biggest selling point in all likelihood.

Getting used to shifting on the right side is going to be a little difficult at first I assume, lol. Very nice car, congrats bro.

The car gets insane amounts of attention from either people who don't know what it is, because you're driving on the wrong side, or people who do know what it is and can't believe that they are actually seeing it in person!

My friend ordered an R32 GTR and it's on it's way over to the US. He went to see it in Japan and picked it out. It looks amazing and is all original including mint original paint. It'll be a California car so he's going to go through the whole CARB legalization process. Because of that, it'll cost a lot more than if he lived in another state.

Thanks man, the shifting is the easy part, not drifting into the left lanes/curb is the hard part because you are so used to that side being your reference for being between the lines

I heard the CARB is still a major hurdle even after the 25 year exemption.
