If you're looking specifically for Chicago style deep dish then yeah... hard to beat pequods.

There's a few chain locations like Giordanos and Lou Malnatis which are also pretty good but pequods is my favorite by far.

From the Whats for Dinner thread. Mushroom, onion, olive, sun-dried tomato, feta, mozzarella, topped with fresh basil. It's the best pizza and crust I have made. For some reason, my last few crusts have been a little flat and tasteless. Frustrating. I wondered if the flour was old but a new KA GP bag didn't change it. They looked and smelled right after a day of cold fermentation but didn't rise enough in the oven so the finished texture and the flavor was wrong.

@wtwo3 - sitting at Pequod's. Shit better be worth it!!!

Alright so the thin crust is a NO. I had to do it. Wanted to try it, lol

Their pan / deep dish however is pretty damn tasty and I am not a fan of deep dish. This is way better than Lou's. I would actually do it again now that I've semi digested. I've never said that about any deep dish pizza. So far from the pizzas I've had in Chicago I'd have to go -

1. Pequod's (this is not really deep dish though)
2. Gino's East (it's too much pizza truly but the damn crust is amazing)
3. Lou Malnati's (the crust is tasty but it's just cornmeal and I'm not a fan of cornmeal lol)
4. Giordano's (the crust is meh)
5. Pizzeria Uno (I really do not like)

Still have to try Art of Pizza. I don't think it'll top Pequod's but still. Besides taste, I think I prefer Pequod's Chicago style pan / baby deep dish because the other places are just too much dough or cheese.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Yoooooooooo you're in my hood!

And LOL the thin crust... ive never even tried their thin crust

Glad you enjoyed it! Agree with your rating, although Gino's East is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes they'll be #2 and sometimes they'll be battling Uno for last place. But Uno being last place is for sure. That pizza is dry and tasteless.

Now that you're here, I expect food reviews of all the places you hit up.

Haven't had Uno's in a loooong time. Seeing the nutritional info might've been part of it. I know... it's pizza, but still.

Now that I think of it, I haven't been downtown and eaten in forever. Duo's was pretty good if I remember right.

I don't know if Sal's is still around or if they are just in the far NW burbs now but they were a pretty good place for hole in the wall pizza. They actually reduce the price a little if you ask for easy cheese. lol.

There are a few good thin crust places (like really thin, thin crust) that I know of way out in the N burbs. A hop on 90/94 (and 30-60min depending on traffic...) gets you most of the way there. One is Emil's and the other is Bill's, both along Lake St.

I'll have to try some of those places. A good place for thin crust in Chicagoland is Vito & Nick's.

I know I'm in the minority, but I like 4 pizzas over all others:
1) Deep dish place called Star Pizza in Houston
2) Papa Johns...better than any of those independent greasy, salty as f**k places everyone else tells me are better
3) Giordano's
4) Ray's NYC

Other than that, any independent pizza place sucks in my opinion.

You lost me at Papa John's.

My typical motto is, "there's no such thing as bad pizza, only pizza that's not as good as other pizza". Papa John's really puts that in question...

My post was not meant to incite, I genuinely feel that way. I feel like the number one ingredient independent pizza places use is oil, followed by salt. Combine it with cheese and no sauce it's just a oily piece of bread. Gross. Worst thing, IMO is that all of these independent places taste the same. It's like one massive chain of collusion between smell business owners.
Don't get me started on the shit that passes for pizza in Europe. Doesn't matter the county, Italy, France, Poland, Germany. Italian pizza may be the original but it's detestable.

Egg should never go on pizza! (for me)

But besides that, my gosh the pizza and crust look bomb!
