Trade in i8 for the M4 GTS? Thoughts and opinions
Totally love the i8 and a sheer pleasure to drive. However I was one of the few chosen to have the opportunity to get the M4 GTS. Only 300 of the total 700 will come to the US. Don't think the wife will go for me owning both so do I trade in the i8 for a total beast of an M? Thoughts

If I were to have the luxury in spending a lot of time at the track, then it may be a hard decision. However, provided M4 GTS' ride is anything like the 911 Turbo that I had, as a sole car and daily driver, the GTS would be less practical and uncomfortable for me. As a professional racing friend once told me, when F1 drivers finish with their workouts on the track, they prefer to get into their GT: Merc, BMW, Audi and the like, off the track. They want a quiet, comfortable, and practical handling car for the real road.
Each individual's case may be different when it comes to selecting the type of car to purchase. For me, I don't regret purchasing track cars, which ended up spending most of their time in the garage. They offered me the driving ownership and understanding for that vehicle type. More important, they've enabled me to appreciate the attributes of the i8, such as the paradox of having a low center of gravity track stance while offering a more GT like ride. In your case, you may want to get the M4 GTS through your system. However, there is no assurance that remorse will not ensue after the trade. |

I'd jump on the M4 GTS. It's a true limited production model and will be next to impossible to get otherwise in the future. You will always be able to find an i8 for sale so if you got to the point where you wanted both, it would be the much easier car to find to complete the pair. They're only offering 300 GTS' to a select group of buyers, there are almost three times as many i8's for sale to anyone that wants one. Seems like a easy choice to me

If you track, get the M4. if you want a daily driver keep the i8. I have the regular M4 and that is OK as a daily driver, but I still like the ease of the i8 as well.

But then again, anyone who looks at this particular choice as a financial trade-off might as well be discussing whether to bet on rising or falling commodity prices. Pure speculation. And totally beside the point of owning a object that's made to be used. You'll be forever thinking about how much each mile and each stone chip on your GTS costs you in depreciation. Trade my i8 for a garage queen? Where's the fun, and how am I going to get to work? |

I bought a M3 CSL IN 2003 400 sold in the UK. They are selling close to original new price.
The GTS is a no brainier buy it enjoy it for a year sell it well above list. In the UK only 30 all sold they are bound to be owners selling on for a quick profit. |

I wouldn't be so sure. If there's only 30 in total for the UK, I wouldn't be surprised if half of those ended up with collectors, never to be seen on the road again. Just like so many McLaren F1s, La Ferraris, Bugatti Veyrons, Porsche 959s, ... It's a shame, really.

I'm in Switzerland right now close to Montreux, Saturday night saw the usual parade of owners showing off their cars - but no i8's. |

In 2015 103 i8 were sold in Switzerland, not that many. Compare this to 115 Ferrari 458 or 53 Lamborghini Hurącan for the same period. I guess it is not the same type of clientele...

I've seen a few around Zurich, and one other i8 owner is a persoal friend of mine. He's CEO of a publically traded company. Shouldn't drive "Italian slim fit", either. ;-) |

As much as I love my i8. I'm trading it in or selling to make room for the M4 GTS. Once in a lifetime chance and I'm sure they will improve on the i8 so at one point in time I'll be back or hopefully have both again!!!
