Sport mode in iX M60

Apologies if this has already been discussed.

I am waiting for the stop sale on an M60 to clear. Coming from a 2022 M4. I drive that in sport or sport plus mode (as I did with the two M cars I had before this one).

How much a range hit is there by putting the M60 into sport mode? As I understand it, sport mode increases horsepower from 532 to 610. In an ICE car, that would be noticeable. Is it that noticeable in the M60 given that the torque stays the same?

My wife has an i4 M50 and I will say that I do not set the drivetrain to sport in that car (just the suspension and steering).

I drive my M60 in Sport mode, on 80% charge it shows about 212 miles. It is noticable on the torque if you really get on it. I prefer the steering and suspension in Sport.

My range displayed on the IX doesn’t change much when I change the mode does yours on the m60i? So just so I can understand, will the m60 only access above 530hp in sport mode? If you are in any other mode it effectively drives like an ix50 (thus the similar ranges we’ve seen in range tests?).

That may be right re: range. Yes - that is what I read - 532 horsepower in Personal Mode.

I do not have my M60 yet. Signed for one on the lot and just waiting for the stop sale to clear (it's been agreed to by dealer that I can opt out of the deal depending on how long that takes).

What I read is the opposite - torque stays the same, unless you do launch control, and the horsepower goes up when you put it into sport.

It’s unfortunate we can’t program it to stay in that mode on every start…

In my wife's i4, it will stay in Sport Individual. Nothing like that for the iX?

I don’t think so. I’ll have to try it again. It is my understanding that it defaults to personal mode every time you start the vehicle. Prior to iDrive 8, you could change this with BimmerCode. They will support the iX soon, but most of the modules are not accessible, and I don’t know if this is part of that.

I've driven my iX M60 for a few months now.

Driving around town (Atlanta suburbs, chilly but not freezing) in sport mode (and enjoying it) I'm getting 2.2 miles/kwh; with 105 Kwh usable kwh in the battery, that works out to a range of 230 miles or so. I don't know the technical details, but the car feels tighter, quicker, and handles better in sport mode.

If the car is in personal mode (still fun to drive, but less fun than sport mode), I'm getting 2.7 miles/kwh around town which works out to 283 miles or so.

I haven't yet measured consumption in efficient mode on a longer road trip; might get better range, though with cruise control set to 75 not sure. Not going less than 75 on interstate in the southeast!

Super off peak charging in Georgia is very cheap, so it is sport mode for me when driving around town. I would like to set sport mode to default, but seems not possible.

What color is your ix? I’m in Atlanta now and saw one driving yesterday around Smyrna/Vinnings 🤣

Deleted my comments, since they made no sense (I had it backwards). I shouldn't post when working off 2 hours of sleep due to being with my sick kiddo all day. He was running a 105 fever earlier, so stressed brain = fail.

I think there is a setting in Sport mode to make it the default mode. Same setting exists in Efficient, Expeessive, Relax and Digital Art.

Those can be set as the default in my ix 50 as well... But NOT sport mode.

It really depends on how you drive it. You can put the car in sport mode and still drive like a granny and use no more of the available power than in any other mode. The main thing is the throttle becomes more responsive so it’s easier to use more.

Efficient changes some things like HVAC behavior to decrease energy usage but the main thing it does is make the throttle less responsive so you can use as little energy as you can to keep speed and accelerate.

Just like you can drive efficiently in Sport, you can still hammer it in efficient and reduce your range. You just don’t have absolutely all of the maximum power available.

Yes, you are correct. I looked again, and indeed, Sport mode cannot be set as default. Other modes can. So strange. M60, 07/22 build.

Frankly the different modes make almost no difference in my M50, I even dare say 0 difference. Even the more economical HVAC consumption that is supposed to be there in efficiency mode hardly impacts range (the real impact is turning of HVAC all together) … Maybe the M60 is different, but I doubt it, it is all related to the throttle … if you drive the M60 in sport the same way as in efficiency it will have a hard to measure impact on range (maybe it is harder because your foot is not used to the little movement you need to make in sport … but if you drive the same, it will consume the same) But granted, if I put the M50 in sport it will consume way more, because I drive it sportier …

1. Sport mode in M60 increases power to 610, so there is the difference in feel. 50i doesn't do anything in terms of power.

2. There is no M50.
