It's just annoying how BMW keeps ruining the looks of their new cars with this ugly beaver face..

Just look at the current 5 series elegant appearance vs. this..

IIRC, this is somewhat of a preview of what the LCI will bring for the G2x/G8x platforms as well. Probably not a full implementation like this for iDrive 8 but supposed to be pretty similar I believe from other rumors/rumblings posted on here.

This guy, at 195cm, is a bit shorter than I am, and he looks really uncomfortable in the rear seat. I remember I felt the same about the rear seat of the F36 I was seriously considering in 2015. So even though the G26 has grown compared to the F36 the rear seat is still not great.

Tesla's rear seat, otoh, is actually OK even with my height. For i4 to match it, BMW would have to give up the coupe shape and use a dedicated EV platform (center tunnel? really?)

The recent G20 purchase experience was quite streamlined:
  1. search inventory(including in-transit)
  2. agree on price(great discounts with minimal efforts)
  3. all paperwork can be done online
  4. drop by to drive off

As much as the process mimics Tesla closely, I didn't take the bait to pay before signing.

So I requested to have a unit that arrived next day to be marked as P1, then test drove(with 10 miles after PDI) before signing.

My understanding is that Tesla requires pay-in-full before product can be driven(and no cool-off once signed), and that does bother me.

up to 510km / 320mi range is what the local rep told me, which is to me after living with a i3 for several years, more than enough.

I think I have my spec ready... basically 1/3 of the price of a M3 here, around the same as a 320i. surely doesnt make sense not getting it?

Nice spec! I think I'm going to order the M50 too. I love the style of the 20" rims but with 255/35 R20 and 285/30 R20 wheels, the consumption will be much higher as it will be with 19" wheels i guess.

I will probably take the 19-inch wheels from the official presentation of the blue M50.

I like the look and the interior, would love to drive one to see how it feels. The videos with the lack of drove train noise don't encourage emotion but do show it's quick.

I also think all the manufacturers all owe Tesla a debt of gratitude as Tesla pioneered all the battery technology to go into an EV (from how to solder and assemble such a big battery to cooling one, motors etc). No one had ever had a go at these engineering challenges prior to them starting up.

Equally, as Tesla was started by electrical engineers not car engineers it does show - their motors and batteries are more advanced than other manufacturers but their ability to design and produce a car lags every major manufacturer as they have had to learn that stuff. The cars are very good for such a young manufacturer and the super charger network is a stroke of genius.

For me, I like premium cars with nuanced chassis tuning, rand heritage, quality handling and looks. I think BMW, Audi, Porsche etc all provide that but they're inferior from a drive train / range perspective but that's OK. They'll catch up and in the mean time their cars will nice steers with quality interiors. It's also quite impressive that Porsche and Audi can make their cars steer and feel so different despite sharing the platform and drive train.

I hope this i4 drives/steers half as well as a 3-series or M3 with similar practicality and cost as it could be my next daily.

If you look photos from production looks like production of washing machines

Guys enjoy your petrol cars until you can, soon you will find only washing machines at dealership.

But.... it has integrated head rest, so it must be a real M

I believe it’s more of an ///M car than the M550i, M340i, etc… M GmbH tuned it.
What's ///M about it?

Exactly, the specs are a bummer: 1st, the i4 will be available only in RWD configuration (at least the first edition) and 2nd, if you go with the AWD one, i.e. the M50 you end up with a ridiculous range.

However, on the positive side: "The BMW i4 can charge its high-voltage battery there at up to 200 kW. When hooked up to high-power charging station of the type, the i4 can take enough energy on board in just ten minutes to increase range by up to 90 miles."

This effectively means that you can recharge pretty quickly in locations where fast-charging stations are available. Recently, Teslabjorn tested the Audi e-Tron GT, which charges also at 200+ kW and it was faster than needed in most cases, which is good for long trips.

Take a look at this video: youtube.com/watch?v=jsq7Sp_YHo0
This! One thing is range but the big thing many brands is missing is the charging speeds. If you effectively in a European road trip can go three hours on highway and then charge at a rate like this (Ionity or Superchargers in the Tesla case) it's actually a pretty great and comfortable road trip. I for one need a toilet and coffee brake every three hours anyway.

The M design in that blue just total transform the look of the i4 - looks amazing !

I've just talked to my sales rep, almost fully loaded the M50 will land at about $90K, before taxes and fees (which we don't pay here), and other discounts. I got one quoted for $84K after discounts. In case of that someone is wondering about the price with options.

Here we can already order it (with production number and so on), and first deliveries will be around Feb-March next year. Maybe a small batch will be released before.

No word on when the configurator will be up.

The blue accent on the gear shifter cannot be removed.

Only Vernasca leather is available, and you can get seat ventilation if you choose the Sport seats. No ventilation with the M-Sport seats.

Towing hook up to 1600Kg.

After 7 straight BMWs - primarily 3 and 4 series my company went all green and the company car needed to be electric. The Tesla Model 3 SR+ (Rear wheel drive version) was the best choice. I feared for the driving dynamics A LOT coming from the trusty Bavarians but my good this thing can drive! Amazing in the corners and rear wheel drive and plenty of power
