Yep, looks like that is what it is for, however we don't get those provided by default here in the states. Instead we just get the empty space

Yeah, looks like this - can be purchased in the US (no idea why it's not provided):

Money.
I believe they are legally required to provide it in places like Europe. Where they aren't (i.e. US/Canada) they cheap out and don't include it.

This! Annoying to be honest, but I get why they do it.

We don't get the inside-the-trunk release lever, nor the side reflectors.

...Neither of which I would buy as an option, mind you.

Why do you guys have the release levers in the trunk? It's not as if a would-be kidnapper couldn't disable it. Or do you have a lot of people who accidentally shut themselves in the trunk?

If it behaves anything like the emergency handles in the doors, they don't work when the car's locked.

Yeah, those two are mandated here. Many do not like the reflectors. The trunk release is on the iX only due to the hard parcel shelf, a roller style one does not need to have an inside release handle. It is technically incase anyone gets trapped in there. As you say, if someone was doing it on purpose they could disable it. I am sure at some point some child or similar got trapped in one and now it is a ruling/mandate that you have to have them on the car to allow easier inside release if the trunk/boot area is over a certain volume and has no easy access to main cabin.

It's for the warning triangle which we don't get in the US - part number 71-60-6-770-487. See this tread - https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s....php?t=2020263
