i8 Autobahn Crash

Car totaled after rear-ending an Audi A3. Systems shut off and voltage drained nearly instantly to avoid harm.

Shame to see a beauty in this way.

Agree. I am hoping this is a high speed impact result. That is them missing piece of the puzzle. The article makes it sound like it was high impact, but as it was a rear-end, there was braking before the impact.

I bet the car will go back to BMW for study. Real life results are far better than lab and simulated crashes.

Anyone know the speed, probably 130 vs 200 km/h or 170 vs 250 km/h?

Usually you can drive 240 km/h with German winter tires... and these Bridgestones also have the V rating.
I have driven at 200 km/h on the Autobahn with V tires without any problems.

It seems the collision warning with autobrake didnt work very well...
"The collision warning additionally affords protection against a rear-end collision with the vehicle ahead at higher speeds. If it is no longer possible to avoid an accident, the braking functions help to reduce the impact speed."

I dont like how that windscreen looks, here are pics of normal windscreens for comparison. I have had my doubts of using Gorilla glass in the i8:

Looks like the i8 was in the left (fast) lane and the Audi decided to go from the right- to the left lane without checking his mirrors.
The i8 only hit just a small part of the Audi and you can see he tried to avoid the crash until he hit the armco on the left.
I don't think there was enough time for the driver nor the collision assist to react.
The windshield doesn't bother me that much, it's shattered but not dented and the structure looks fine to me.
