Blackout i8 on HRE P101's by Wheels Boutique

Team Wheels Boutique is back again with yet another masterfully done BMW i8. This is our 13th…or 14th…or was it 15th i8? I don’t know, it’s been over a dozen of ‘em and it’s getting hard to keep track! All we know is that more and more i8 customers come to us because of our reputation as the i8 experts. We usually go with a more colorful setup to tie into the hybrid sports cars blue theme, but this client wanted to go a different route for his build. So naturally we called our boys at The Sign Savers to help with some color elimination and window tinting, then ordered up a set of Satin Black P101’s in 22” to finish off the stealthy Dark Knight vibe. Here’s to the next dozen or so ones we get our hands on.

Wheel Specs:
HRE P101
22”x9” // 22”x10.5”
Finish: Satin Black
Tires: Pirelli P Zero Nero GT
Front: 245/30/22
Rear: 285/25/22

Blue Trim Black Out by The Sign Savers

1. Hard to see the design.

2. When you can see it, it looks ordinary, typical and like a half dozen other wheel choices.

I don't get it. But I'm 70.

The P101 is for all intents and purposes HRE's flagship wheel model and many consider HRE to be the top aftermarket wheel company in the world. What wheel choice and finish would you like to see sir?

I would look for a unique wheel design for the i8. And one that is not hidden by being dark. Nor given a color that detracts from the body's styling. At this point the only wheel I can think of that meets these criteria is BMW's W wheel design. You cannot see it on any other car, it doesn't detract from the car but complements it, and it's not garish. Sometimes the designers actually know what they're doing.

How about unique like this (but in a lighter finish of course)

The W wheel design, like all other BMW wheels, is as ordinary as they come. There's nothing unique about a 15 spoke directional wheel. Mine are sitting in my garage collecting dust. This is one of HRE's more traditional designs but design aside, as far as quality goes it's easily one of the best wheels money can buy.

The problem with the wheel you've proposed (but in a lighter color) is that it looks too much to me like a five-legged swastika. But I do agree it's unique.

Can you post a photo of a similar wheel (or two)?

Well here are a few other wheels created through the ADV.1 private design program:

These two hideous things follow the same design principle as BMW's, granted BMW did it way better, but like I said, it's nothing unique. They are 15 spoke wheels, grouped into 5 sets of 3 spokes ("w" style), and tilted. Truth is, there's only so many designs you can fit on a wheels face. It's been thousands of years since its invention. Pretty much everything has been done by this point.
