Ie- I mentioned knowing the 2016s were already out, WITH laser lights so I could start a "low point" as far as trying to get a specific i8 (2015 model) down in the 120k range- and the sales rep scoffed at me and said he's never heard of such a thing.

Ay yi yi.
Lol!

Laughing and walking away was the best course of action in this case. He has never heard of this because he doesn't study his craft. Unreal.

I was thinking about i8 and went with 7 series instead, but found that the pricing is dropping through the floor. If you run across someone saying impossible share this link with them--this dealer had like 5 at $25k off (POSTED). Just info to be armed with: http://www.bmwofsanantonio.com/new-i...m?model=i8&&&&

Yeah. The local dealership I originally wanted to purchase from asked for an up front $50k deposit to be first on the list when the US model was unveiled in Aug '13 (I passed and went with a dealer that only asked for $1k down and sold their first to me for MSRP). Driving by yesterday they had so many that they were parked on the lot next to their last gen 7-Series. It makes me feel a little better that it wasn't just me that bought into the "limited-production halo car" hype that BMW was shoveling to dealers before the car launched and they decided to just start making as many as they could instead.

Wow the San Antonio prices are good! If I find a deal with a good trade in on my M3 I am taking the plunge.

840 cars. Curious that after reporting 656 sales in December, the needle on available cars didn't go down, it actually increased by 140 cars from the 1st of December. BMW sold 1/20th the number of cars in January, 32. Quite a dip from 656 sales in December to 32 in January. I think someone fat-fingered the official December sales report.

I'm still not convinced the # of sale listings correlates 1:1 with a unique VIN.

I wonder if that can be extracted.

I've been watching Cars.com on I8's since November where the cheapest one was 126k, and now is for 110k at this rate I'll wait a couple of months and get it for 95-100k

Then why not wait a year and get one for zero?

As if prices moved in a straight line like that and went down forever ...

Now they have 7. Pretty amazing. I wonder if that's really reprsentative or if they just got in over their heads trying to cash in on early adopters as much as they could.

It could also be that BMW got the balance wrong between US and European models. Over here, you still don't see i8s sitting at dealerships and being discounted. And of course, you can't just redirect a US shipment to a European dealer, because the specs are different.

There are still a few 2015s at my local dealer...$6800 off with giga ($132k internet pricing so I'm sure it could be had cheaper).

Holy crap that's amazing...now about as much as a 911. BMW will have to reconsider this pricing model for sure...

Does anyone know if the 2015 model i8 are still available to be leased under a residual based program?

I looked at an i8 on Friday and they only had leases on the 2015s unless I wasn't being told the truth because they want to get rid of the old inventory.

I really enjoyed driving it but I'm scared to pull the trigger because it appears that they can't give them away now.

That's a self-fulfilling prophecy, right there. Everyone is scared over resale value, hence they don't by, hence everyone is even more scared over resale value. Duh! Get over it and enjoy the darn thing.

Or go and buy a Camry - there, the loss of value is already built into the driving experience and the overall appeal from day one. No surprises.

But can they still be leased?

My m6 for example- if it were a 2015 model- I would only be able to lease it based off a dollar based program- not residual which turns out to be just as much as a finance. But all 2016 models have residual programs.

Seeing how there are a bunch of 2015 models left- I would assume that they are still available with a residual program. And if so- I'd rather take a 2015 model discount down to the 120s range- than a 2016 at msrp, get what I'm saying?

BMW got greedy and started producing as many cars as they could. A limited edition was appealing, now that they mass produce, they wont sell. I had a very hard time selling my car, probably something to do with the economy also. In a small country like where I live, we have 6 unsold cars and the situation has been identical for many months. One of many reasons I sold mine. If sales drop heavily, and one day we might have a really sought after car again, not sure if the hardware will age as well as I think the looks will...
