All dealerships are updating the vehicles that were on hold and now selling them. So apparently the software update was the fix. The cars need to be below 50% battery and I guess it takes around 4 hours to update. So they are just turning the AC on and letting the cars run down the battery level.

I signed papers on Monday, picked up the car Thursday. And there is loyalty if you have an i3 now.

Msrp 57,545
Selling price with fleet discount 50,795
11,500 in credits
Zero drive off, 35 payments of 393.99

Then I’ll get 2500 California and 450 Edison rebates in a few months. So effectively $301 per month.

Just a wild guess: notion is deactivated if the seat belts aren't on? Has anyone tried this yet?

If she uses her seat belt she will be fine.

Doesn't your wife wear her seat belt and if she doesn't why are you worried.

It's only if she doesn't wear her seatbelt. But if you really are worried, I'd call BMWFS and voice your concerns. Hopefully they can do something for you. You could also have someone take over the lease. What are your payments?

I drove the car without seat belt... it drove well.. lol

Something else interesting I did notice, which WAS NOT there when I dropped i3 off for service... It now has that ‘creaking steering’ at low speed that was mentioned earlier in this thread... bravo BMW Irvine.

This car really is like none other and I will always cherish it... the people behind maintaining my cool ride, not so much. Lol... such a shame for such a ‘reputable’ name as BMW..

what exactly did they 'fix' pertaining to the Recall?
you make it sound as if its separate from the Software update..

Just received my Safety RECALL Notice in the mail.. The fix is indeed hardware and NOT software.. It calls for a new AIRBAG..

Considering how much AirBags help/hinder ones safety, i'm glad to see it addressed.

When I heard the reports (rumors) that software would be the fix for the (this) Safety Recall I shivered in terror and found it very hard to believe.. Glad I was correct..

Just for Americans who think not wearing a safety belt is safer.

Safety Update

Hello

I had the check engine light go on, and scheduled an appointment to have it checked--just don't want to be in the boondocks, relying on the REX and have it not available. I also got the notice about the

"Recall Campaign No. 17V-720river Front Air Bag" In the Q&A it says "What will BMW Do? A: BMW will update the software for the driver's front air bag free of charge, which will take approximately one hour"

So there you have the story from BMW, No hardware, but software update to the driver air bag. There had been some post about the "hardware not available"--perhaps some front air bags do get changed--may depend on the model year and or serial number. Mine is a 2017. BTW: Got the same notice for the 2015 that was my prior i3 on lease.

It drives the same. This is probably why the car still works without the seat belt fastened. Great Job BMW.

My notice says it's software. Can you take a photo of your notice and post it?

well.. I guess it helps to read the fine print.. (or not so fine)..

cant say that I agree with the strategy... just hope they don't compromise the 'other occupants' while adjusting the sequence.
