need advice regarding 4 yr old and pre-k.

Well my 4 year old daughter did not get accepted for pre-k. Should I pay for alternative schools? Is it worth it or should I just let her stay home with the wife and have her teach at home? I know my daughter is very sad about this because she was so excited about going to school...

First question should be do you plan on sending her to public school or private school for elementary? That should be the determining factor in your decision.

Pre-K is as much about allowing kids to adjust to the school setting (other kids, new adult authority figure, structured day/activities) as it is about learning. If she has been at home with mom and hasn't gotten a lot of exposure to those things, it might be a good idea to get her into some sort of program. That way kindergarden won't be such a shock to her system.

on the letter it just said that there wasn't enough seats. Then I looked up online that the funding dropped from $2.5 mil to $1.8mil , did some more reading about the pre-k programs and sounds like they put kids that are more at risk and low income kids first...

my son just got done with Pre-K this year.

i heard most people say "pre-k is just a daycare".

fuck, these bitch teachers had him doing homework and tests.

kid would come home everyday saying shit like "how many claps does refrigerator have !?!?"

i would look at him like a crazy retard and he would say "re-fri-ger-a-tor, 5 claps daddy"

kid was learning syllables and shit - blew me away. he was only freaking 4 !!!

he also knows how to read 4 letter words and he knows his nouns and verbs.

dude, find an alternative school.

if not, kindergarden will shock the shit outta your kid.

lolz. I work in a convenience store and many of my customers work in the child care and home health care services. I would not want any of them near my baby girl. I guess it depends on your location and which county your in. I might have to switch counties because i don't want my daughter to come home and ask me how man claps did her teacher had last night...

the first day of school was "ok".

we dropped him off, but he didn't know we were not going to pick him up for another 8 hours.....

SECOND DAY is hell - kids are now aware that you are taking them to school to leave them there so they do everything in their power to not be left behind HAHA !!!!

it's tough but you have to let'em go man. teachers are used to it.

they just take your kid and close the door - it's the only way to break them.

after the first 2 weeks, it's all smooth sailing from there

When you say "pre" K, are you talking about preschool? Or "D" K? (Developmental Kindergarten) which comes after preschool and before Kindergarten.

I've never heard of a child not getting into preschool. "D" K would depend upon the number of spots available and nowadays the child has to test to even get into K depending on the school!!!

So competitive. It's gotten ridiculous with all the budget cuts.

Do Kindercare, they're nationally accredited and it's basically pre-k. I had my son enrolled at one of their facility since he was 1.5 years old. In 2 weeks he was fully potty trained at 2 he was writing his name and like lito said they learn syllables and all that sort of kindergarten crap. And at 4 they actually give them a test to see if they can get into kindergarten. Best of all their affiliated with the school district and they can help with the enrollment process. Besides, the kids learn how to act around other adults as well as interact with other kids....you get to check out hot moms!

On the con side, they learn some bad behaviors from other kids too.
