Waiting for portable .25 liter controlled fusion thermonuclear headlights - should be brighter than laser, plus color temperature would render true to daylight colors.

Now since xenon is third class technology maybe BMW can offer it as standard across the lineup without up charging.

I still see so many new BMW 3 series and 1 series with those nasty old halogens.

The only way the USA would adopt Laser Headlight Technology before anyone else would be if it had some type of military benefit. If it can't kill or destroy...we'll pass for now.

those are pretty weak LED high beams. Almost identical to the low beams, just set off the reflective strips further up the road, which only need like 5watts to light up anyway

About time all BMWs (except the very entry trim level of the very cheapest models) had Xenons as standard. There is simply no excuse for putting halogen on a 25+ grand car. Same goes for Audi and Merc.

Even Seat have them as free upgrades on basic models costing thousands less.

I don't get why the 4 series gets them but the 3 doesn't. It's like if I want a practical doors I have to have crap headlights.

All the options put lease prices up more than having standard spec

It's so stupid. For example, BMW is such a "luxury" brand here in the US that you are required to get leather. We can't get the cloth seats even if we want to do so over here.

And yet, that luxury car that costs 30k (128 or 328) has halogens that any Ford or Kia has. That's not a knock on Ford or Kia - those aren't priced or regarded as luxury cars.

Some of the shit BMW does is just idiotic. And that's the case regardless of how awesome the sales numbers look....

1. You pay for the in the 4-series, it's factored into MSRP lol

2. It's not xenons that are expensive, it's the projector housing and optics that add cost.

I agree that all BMW's should have at least xenons but there is still a cost saving to be had for many buyers who simply don't care... it's better business sense. Of course BMW has genius financial analysts to figure all this shit out, and the result is what we see today

awesome technology....Nice way to force the other drivers to suffer for a longer distance.I can't imagine driving in front of an SUV equipped with these.People like me would automatically yield to them. But I am sure BMW has auto high beam equipped with these vehicles. The other day I had that elephant infiniti suv behind me and his lights even in low beam were blinding me .I just had to risk tilting my rear view mirror and drive away from him.

I drive a car fitted with adaptive LED headlamps and while the headlights are whiter, with possibly much less electrical load on the battery in use, and add to the distinctive design appeal of the car; they do not brighten up the entire street as depicted.

AUDI has been testing a range of Laser headlamp technologies for front and rear active safety, saw an interesting programme about it on Discovery only recently so not surprised BMW would amp up the marketing machine. But that tricked out "Laser" i8 illustration really does take the biscuit! There will be serious opposition to indiscriminate, high lumen lighting from cars that obstruct other road users, not to mention pedestrians, during use.

The Discovery documentary showed that there was a low radiation risk in prototype designs, that they froze over in winter as they were cold sources, and myriad other problems to work through. Not helped by silly photoshop jobbies!

This has got Herr Scott26 written all over it!

Actually you can get xenon lights on cheap Kia's now that don't cost nearly as much as a 3 series or even a one series

Exactly, why M Sport at the very least doesn't include xenon as standard is beyond me.
