What can be bought afterwards as a software upgrade?

Hi, I’ve an i4 m50 that is due in July, it’s a cancellation that I picked up so it’s not speced as I’d like. It’s missing the comfort pack and tech plus pack. Im really going to miss comfort access and I’d like to have had drive recorder.

Im wondering is there any possibility that the digital key would be a software upgrade option?

Does anyone have a list of things you can buy afterwards via a software upgrade and what are the hardware prerequisites to have in order to buy?

I personally am looking forward to not having to rely on a digital key on my phone (for our MY) as it's less reliable and slower than having a key fob in your pocket.

Probably like the past, the hardware missing. Here in the US comfort access is standard, but it needs hardware in the form sensor/antenna at the doors, etc. So it's not going to be unlocked via softwate.

Drive recorder if the camera is there could be a software update. It's safe to say that if it didn't come with the feature, you can't add it later. With that approach you cannot be disappointed.

You would need additional hardware for digital key to work. Not only software.

Two dealers and BMWNA told me that most options and features cannot be added afterwards, at least not via factory BMW service.

Of course a lot can be done aftermarket, but it depends on how much you want to spend and if you can get the necessary hard and software.

God the tesla phone key is absolute garbage. I'm yanking on the door handle and having to spin around and get my butt closer to the door for it to pick up the signal. I HATE it. the BMW key uses NFC instead of bluetooth, much like how apple wallet works when you pay with your phone which is much more stable. the technology in the iX is even more advanced, and I do agree I wish we had that.

But yes, coming from a Tesla, I can't WAIT to just have a key fob again.

Yeah, the digital key+ in the iX is MUCH better than the i4 digital key...it's like the Tesla digital key, just better.

Digital key works well on the i4, but you have to physically touch the door handle with the top of your iPhone (bottom of phone does not work).

Also, welcome lights, auto lock, auto unlock (Comfort Access options accessed via iDrive) and foot kick trunk will not work with digital key. The physical key fob on the i4 allows you to use all features.

On days when I know I don't want the key in my pocket, I just use my phone and leave the key at home. But now that I have had my i4 more than a month, I find myself bringing the physical key more and more. I like the auto unlock and lock, I love the welcome lights (programmed via iDrive) and I do enjoy the foot kick trunk opener.
