I don't care for this car. I do care to see a sexy girl in a short skirt get in and out of it.

I don't get why so many people are ripping on this car and/or the price. I think its priced just right for its target market. If you want a M3/M4 you aren't even looking at this car. The super rich will eat this car up so they can talk about how they own a super effecient sports car (which it is) and it looks a hell of a lot better than the Tesla Model S, Fiskar, or any other hybrid/electric car.

This was meant to have an extremely low production run and be the face of the "i" cars, thats it, wasn't meant to be a big seller, think of the old Z8.

I say to BMW on this one.

BMW I division is making the first step in the right direction I bet the second generation i8 will be a beast. The design looks great minus a few details but oh my lord I hate those wheels. Yes people who can afford a 135k car don't care about gas prices as much as the rest of the world. But fuel economy also saves you time at the pump specially if your staying in a short range this car allows you to go all electric. My point is that time is money and for people with large incomes 15 minutes of time could be worth a few hundred bucks (good lawyers make about $500/hour, 500/4= $125). And as for the R8 comparisons I would never consider the V8 knowing the V10 is what the car was built for. No doubt in my mind BMW is going to have an easy time selling this car in California and I look forward to seeing them on the streets

Yes, that is also very very true.

I would love an i8, but I'm unfortunately not in the financial position to get one as of right now. Were I to personally spent $130k on a car, I would get myself a GT3 as that serves my driving style better.

But I can totally understand why there are people who would get the i8 as a weekend car (can't really DD it too far..)

Holy freaking key fob!! Did you see the size of that thing? It's like having a game boy as your car key. I'm NOT handing that over to valet...

I like the Tesla. I see a Aqua colored one with blacked out windows and wheels. Sexy best.

But THIS is a BMW i3. lol

It's kinda like comparing a M3 to an M6. I mean ... "really?"

You get an M3 when you can't afford an M6 (or if you want to talk about "benchmarks" but have never had any professional driving lessons and do nothing but drive Ms Daisy every day in a commute to and from work).

Its like people who say the S5 is the M3's competitor, when it's the RS5 vs. M3 and S5 vs 335i.

Point is, the Tesla just isn't in the same category.

No hate on the Tesla. It's a beautiful car, and with the high end battery, fast. But, its not a competitor of the i3 ... no more than the M3 is a true competitor of the Lambo.

... just my 2 cents.

One thing I do with the X6M and would do with any car I value (such as i8) -- never give your keys to the valet!

I'd rather pay the extra $20, park it up front, and keep my key. This is the only way to valet if you care about your car. Just my $0.02.

IMO you must be freaking nuts or have to much money to by a $135k electric car.
This statement coming from someone who is from SoCal has no meaning.
You know how they make deals on the AMG/M cars over phones and emails because they know a CA. Cash down.

i8 are going to be a new style statement and really cool 13th or 14th car for some rich dudes.

Can't wait to test drive one! Awesome looking car!

Spot on. There are so many BMW DNA design elements missing...

It's a real shame that BMW AG did not make a proper supercar.

Not true. Many M3 owners, myself included, do not want a big and heavy GT car. The E9X M3 has the perfect balance.

Looks like Audi took the design concepts of Lexus, BMW and an A5 and said, ok, I'm done.

Is a hood scoop really necessary for an inline 3? I thought "form follows function" at BMW?

Overall: Very good and very close to to the concept. I think I like how the tail lights are on this more than the concept. The suspended tail lights of the concept made it look to fragile IMO.

Details that bug me:
-The headlights are incredibly boring. By trying to make BMWi more distinct from other BMW's they have made them more inline with other cars in regard to headlight design.

-I wish BMW would have designed a specific gear lever for the i8. It is quite obviously a parts bin item in an otherwise bespoke cabin.

-The vent in the hood looks a bit silly, but if it is for cooling the electric motors I suppose it is okay.

Overall, I'd say it is a solid 8.5/10 in terms of design.

Hum... my 2 cent.

I like the darker color. Looks better than I expected. But skinny rear tires and an engine that is less than special doesn't do it for me. Anyone think it will win engine of the year anytime soon?

More of this kind will come, why not shock the world with something faster while achieving around 50mpg? Makes Porsche with it's 918 look stupidly expensive. Be the first to offer affordable supercars with good mpg or wild ones that would be kept and waxed every week after 20 years!!!

I don't see this car becoming the mainstream cars for most families. Pretty sure won't get driven often to justify the fuel saving compare to lets say a 320i blue efficient.

The i3 makes more sense to me. What are the decision makers thinking at BMW? Sell the car to emotional individual or sensible ones?

Emotional = high rev M engine with the electric motor for boost and when ran out of fuel at the track.
Sensible = Super high tech and intuitive systems (Whole windshield with info etc?) and renovating operations. While getting 95mpg and year 2000 performance.

Special runs should be focused on the potential buyers that goes to bimmerfest, tracks and Sunday morning coffee to talk about cars. Selling this expensive of a ride to someone so they can "pretend" they care for the environment doesn't do any good to the brand's image. Manufacturing the batteries kills more baby sharks, sparrows or polar bear than driving my 15mpg E46 and E90 M.

But, cool car nevertheless. Good job BMW. Front needs more work and possible active aero soon? Cool brakes, active aero, and awsome head lights are what people like.
