I definitely have not and there are about 15 other cars on the list in that price range I would buy before I would even consider an i8 even as a daily.

I misunderstood what the car was for the first few months it was out, and only actually studied it carefully after it got a few reviews like this. Then I realized I was not understanding what it really was. Which is btw what I see here from other posters when they try to criticize it without having any experience with it. |

I'm not into hybrid anything....I want to smell, hear and feel my car. Just give me a solid BMW with 6mt and rwd and I will continue to be a BMW customer. BMW has been missing the mark since the intro of the F30 but that's my opinion. To me the i8 has no business being in that comparison but I guess they thought otherwise. |

I am the other way. I am tired of hearing/smelling/feeling the car. There is only so much road/horsepower you can have. I couldn't ever even bring myself to get an Exige because its just too damn loud. But doesn't mean I don't get the love of the ICE power! |

Moving to the i8 and addressing your point more directly. I went with 4 of my friends to, 'Mexico' this morning for a spirited drive. The cars attending were as follows: McLaren P1, McLaren MP4-12C LeMans Edition, Ferrari F430, and a Ferrari 360. At each stop, the P1 garnered the most attention followed by the i8 then the MP4-12C LeMans then the Ferrari's. This was consistent throughout the 120 mile drive at each stop. The i8 was able to keep up with the group pretty easily with 2 passengers...keeping in mind that we were on public roads in MEXICO. The driver of the 360, a pretty good shoe, commented afterwards that he couldn't shake the i8 when I was behind him and I managed to put quite a bit of distance on him when i was in front. That is on narrow tires, ill-suited for enthusiastic driving. The i8 is definitely tire handicapped...the tires are gawdawful!!! A proper set of tires will change everything. The chassis is a stiff, stiff, stiff!! It creates a stable platform from which the suspension can consistently do it's job. Speaking of suspension, the typical front-end tendency of BMW's to understeer is present but it can be neutralized, to a point, with the driven front wheels. Driving the i8 is a completely different drive relative to the M6 and presents a different challenge to master as a driver. I'm quite pleased with my purchase and look forward to many more miles in the vehicle. Cheers-mk Last edited by MKSixer; 07-12-2015 at 08:27 AM.. |

Thanks for this. Shame Jeremy Clarkson screwed up - otherwise this would have been an amazing video review on a Top Gear TV episode!

It sure isn't for you. You'll be buying used BMW's for the rest of your life and soon you'll change your name from ClassyFast to ClassicFast, looking for old parts that don't even exist anymore.

I felt compelled to comment because you're trolling in the i8 section. Frankly I had e46m3 and 335 but none of them compare to the i8. In fact, they don't even compare to my Porsche or Aston. Now e36m is a beautiful car but if you really wanna be classyfast, you should be driving a e30m.

The 325R on the M6 are pretty damn meaty, can you put all the power to the ground with those? Last edited by b0bab0i; 07-17-2015 at 01:29 AM.. |

I tried the 991 cars and it was too cushy and too expensive. I was looking for a track car and picked 09 because it had direct injection and PDK. I had it modified with KWV3 coilovers, Pagid yellow pads, and GT3RS sway bars. But even if it was a 991, dude, a 911 is a 911 and any improvements are evolutionary at best.
But i8? it's REVOLUTIONARY! So I'd still choose the i8 as my current fav.

ya people just don't get it. Don't buy the i8, it ain't for ya. I'd take the i8 over any 911 turbo lol. I had 996TT, 997GT3, 997TT, and 997.2TT
So what if the 911 turbos are faster. i8 is a world apart.

you are also officially the first one to call it terrible looking. It might not have the longest e-range, the widest tyres, and it might not be the fastest car, but man does it look good in the flesh, that is one thing EVERYONE agrees on. I just have to conclude that you have never even seen one. And on the subjectof Porsches, I traded in my Panamera Turbo for this car and chose it over a 991 Turbo S. Its that good. |

Seems like it's all been said, but I owned a 996 GT2 and a 997 TT. While the 991 is certainly a better car, I can't imagine it compares with the i8 at all. First the i8 feels like a true super car -- the materials, look, fit and finish are in a whole different class than the Porsche.
Where BMW has truly excelled with this car is that they have focused on what owners can actually use, and optimized for that. While everyone else was pushing more and more horsepower that no one could ever possibly use on the street, BMW made a car that's as fast as 99.99999% of people could ever want, and made everything else about the driving experience better. The only place where a Porsche wins is that here in LA it gets much less of attention. This is a win 50% of the time and a lose the other 50%, and an overall lose given that the i8 is probably the best piece of automotive design in decades. |

Well said sir. I've owned 50+ cars in my lifetime, including most of the "supercar" exotics and none come close to the uniqueness of the i8. I can't match your eloquence but I sure do agree with what you said.
