I8 Door Seal pinched
Hey everyone.
The rubber gasket seal on the passenger side door keeps getting pinched. See picture. I actually had the whole seal replaced about a year ago. Dont want to pay another $600. Any suggestions on how to fix this myself? Is there a sealant that would hold this and keep it from getting pinched? Thanks everyone. |

i actually ordered mines from ECS tuning and DIY. Its pretty straight foward, its litterally held on by double sided tape. You can actually remove/install without removing the top pillar if you are careful.

BanjoPaterson When i say pinched, i mean its physically getting rolled in that small section when the door is opened.
az989 I looked on ECS tuning and i seal the door seal. Any recommendation on the double sided tape? Thanks. |

Ah, I actually thought 'stolen' until I saw CAX3's reply. I'd completely forgotten about the more common meaning of 'pinched' as in rolled in. My BMW paranoia where 'pinched' means my badge, my wheels etc.
Maybe I should hand in my keys... not bright enough to drive an i8. |

I know that this thread is now dead, but thought I would add this for future reference as I recently had and managed to solve this problem.#
The outer trim (the visible part) that the seal is attached to is clips into part of the trim that holds the windscreen in place. To unclip the outer trim, pull away from the car (directly up) and it easily comes away. The trim underneath has a number of torx screws to hold the windscreen. In my case this had not quite been fitted in line after a windscreen replacement. I managed to solve the seal being pinched (that was driving me crazy...) by loosening a couple of the screws, shoving the trim towards the centre of the car a little more and tightening the screws back up. Only issue with this is that you will need to remove the seal to do this (which can be done without removing the door, but is a bit fiddly getting it back around the hinge) and will likely require a new seal to stick it back well. |
