Car was completely gutted. Many changes. Nothing like a model S you can get off the showroom floor. Without going into Tesla’s build quality, how is this ring test even credible?

If Tesla ran BtG instead of full lap, then the comparison is not valid.

Need to let the Ford Trimotor in on the action, if 3 powerplants is what it takes these days.

I could care less about Nürburgring ring times, all I would like is a redesigned Model S with a nice luxurious interior. While the Tesla fanboys don't like the Model S being called "dated," I really believe that it looks so inside at least. The interior in particular in both design and materials needs a major overhaul. The 370 mile range, size, and exterior styling are all good, and would easily work for my lifestyle, but without a nice and new interior, I don't see myself buying one.

It’s a prototype ringer and ran BtG not full lap, so not really comparable.

people only care about ring times if their ‘team’ is winning

I have been a Porsche fan forever, and for anyone to be able to beat porsche at their own game is impressive.

Even if it is a ‘ringer’ all tesla has to do is offer the option package

Well, I'm an auto enthusiast and I care. I like to know how cars go around tracks, how they accelerate, what their Gs and speeds are around turns, etc. Gives an idea of the handling and acceleration in addition to other information available. Especially considering things like Teslas that could go so fast in a straight line, but fell flat on their face on a track. That's an extreme example, but when comparing against less radical cars, you can get insights into how good the chassis is, etc. For those of you that don't care, be sure to keep telling us on the track threads about how you "don't care". It definitely proves the point when you keep replying...

I love it!!!

Porsche: we just build a new super fast electric four door car that is quick in a straight line and on the track, check out our killer Nuremberg time!

Tesla: hold my beer.

lol.

If anything Tesla related, always be skeptical. Especially if it is coming from Musk's mouth.

I don't mind a Tesla product itself. It's the rabid insecure fanboys that turn me off.
So how does this Plaid compare to the Taycan in terms of "modified for Nurburgring?" Is the Taycan just as stripped out? Porsche claims that performance degradation is minimal under repeated race cycles. How about Plaid S?

its a PR stunt. They're stock is in the toilet for the last year and they need some good press.

I mean you can strip out and tune up a Civic and have it beat an M3 too.

They compared a non-official time on the Tesla to an official time of the Taycan Turbo.

Also note, this doesn't even compare to the Taycan Turbo S, which is even faster.

1. DARK tinted windows showing he has nothing to hide, like stripped interior.
2. Carbon ceramic brakes
3. Slick tires, as visible in pictures
