Spiders like to hang out in your shoes.
About 17-18 years ago, I was sitting on the porch in Southern California, watching my dad get ready to go to work. He was a Border Patrol agent, and had those big leather boots. Anyways, I watch him turn the boots upside down, and shake, then tap them against the floor. Naturally curious about this, as I had seen it a few times since he started that job, I asked what he was doing.
"Making sure there are no spiders in there. They like to hang out in shoes." I was suitably horrified, and for the next dozen or so years, I made sure to tap my shoes each time I put them on. I've fallen off of doing it for awhile, the last time I remember doing it being in Afghanistan when I was in the Army, but this morning, I curiously felt compelled to do it before going to work. And then a hairy fiend a little bigger than my face vacated my shoe: I freaked out like a little ninny. I wanted to warn the rest of you guys. Spiders love to be chillin' in your shoes. And was curious if anyone else did the shoe tap. |

I have two horses so this comes naturally to me. I leave my riding boots in my tack room in the barn so I always shake and knock them against the wall before putting them on. Ive already been bitten on the hand by a comb foot spider when I was reaching for fly spray last fall. I use a yellow bottle that has a black spray handle and well the spider was on the handle. It felt like my hand was on fire. I cried.. alot. Ive been bitten by my horse and it didnt hurt anywhere near as bad as when that spider got me.

I'm a little bitch when it comes to spiders. You can successfully rob me using a spider instead of a gun. When girls are around I try to act like a big man if I have to kill a spider. But on the inside, I'm shitting my pants hoping this spider will stand still so I can kill him.
