So the magic touch was; use eSys for the coding and not Bimmercode. On another forum I found out that that was the problem. Works like a charm now!

Only problem now is that the navigation stays on the loading / booting screen. Even after closing the car and keep it closed for hours. Will try an ISTA diagnosis this weekend if it doesn’t start up correctly.
I am now facing the same issue. My large screen was previously coded with BimmerCode and worked fine for years. I did an i-level upgrade today which hasn't been done in almost 7 years and after re-coding the screen settings with BimmerCode, it's doing an exact same thing as yours. Will try your fix with E-Sys. Thanks for sharing the resolution!!

Screen upgrade for more recent i3s

After reading this post i am now more confused as to whether upgrading the screen is possible for newer (2020+) i3s. Should i buy a larger screen from an older car and try to reprogram using bimmercode?

Most likely you will run into the same issue and would have to use E-Sys. I reached out to BimmerCode on this and they said they are aware of the issue and don't have a fix.
