Neue Klasse X is the future iX3. As per the original post, iX will end production on 6/28 and the new iX3 will start production on 7/25. So, there will be some overlap with both iX and iX3 being in production at the same time.

People say this but a restroom break takes about 5 minutes. I have first hand experience because I drive long distances regularly for work and don’t waste valuable time stopping for extended periods. EVs simply aren’t ideal (or even good) for long trips.

So you’re admitting to driving long distances with only 5 minute breaks? Most countries that wouldn’t be legal. Hope you don’t drive an HGV!

To those worrying about range. The iX is an expensive vehicle to begin with, I would assume if you can afford $80-$100k vehicle, you can afford to own a second vehicle, or rent one when travelling. EVs are never going to work for everyone, but they will absolutely work for 80% of the population, while a PHEV will work for the other 20%.

One time we drove from Atlanta to sea island, and even with 3 girls we didn’t stop- 330 miles, 5.5 hours. In the Tesla we would have stopped twice according to the trip planner and inefficient at those speeds (average 75 mph). Usually we stop twice for a bathroom break at Sbux - if there was a charger there it would be perfect. But the Tesla chargers - and I assume EA chargers - are a half mile away or not there at all, and we have no interest in dealing with that. Besides it’s just not that efficient driving on the highway so defeats the purpose of saving $ with gas at $4/gallon (premium). We’d probably average 350 wh/mi or 2.85 mi/kWh so for a 330 mile trip that’s 115 kWh x .30/kWh = $35. Gas @ 26 mpg is $50. Saving $30 round trip for the headache? No thanks

I recently switched to an iX50 from a G05 and made the first ski trip in absolutely peak season and the worst possible week when it comes to people travelling to the ski resorts and with a rather high rate of EVs.
I was genuinly worried the 330 mile trip would turn into a 10 hour charging nightmare. We were travelling 5 people, full cargo and ski box. The iX was great, range sufficient and charging was not a problem, we were really pleasantly surprised. Current EVs like the iX absoluteley work as long as the charging infrastructure is there, i.e. no waiting times at charging points, reasonable distance between them. Give it a few years and we will have 500 mile range, better charging infrastructure, faster charging and very few people can argue that an EV will not work for them. As much as I love an ICE and they are still more convienient on long trips, EVs do work and for daily driving they are actually better in many ways. |

I do quite a few 300+ plus mile trips and for the most parts haven’t had too many issues. The issues with longer trips I’ve had is that while my initial charge has been averaging around 270 miles( winter/snow tires) is that when you arrive at a charger it may be full and now you have a 30+ plus minute wait to even start charging. That if you lucky the 30 minutes of charging only gets you to 80% and it’s like another 45 minutes to get you to 100%. Obviously more chargers would help or if 80% got 300 miles or a much flatter charging curve.
Oh and just for context I live in Tahoe so dealing with cold temps and feet of snow consistently. |

This would drive me crazy. Once the NACS standard is in the iX and Tesla opens its superchargers, these headaches for you all will be over. I’ve never once had to wait for a supercharger, and now the car tells you how many superchargers are available when you arrive given who is en route. And almost everyone puts the SC into Nav to properly warm the battery for charging at a faster rate, so it takes any anxiety away.

So the iX gets 70 more miles of range than a model X @ 70 mph. Now just need a third row and more storage (like a fronk), NACS & SC access and we’ll be all set! Until then X7 it is.

True- the highland addressed a lot of the flaws in the refresh- I thought bmw had the upper hand but I was surprised at how nice the dual motor model was- and how much nicer the interior felt.
