10k km and OEM rear tires done

Is this normal? I am not a psychotic driver but not timid either, kind of shocked…. The tires were practically F1 Tires

Mine didn't have many miles and were nearly slicks, 12,000 miles. Replaced with Michelin PS4S, at least they start with 8mm not 6mm when new! Not noticed any significant or obvious difference in mpg in fairness.

Yeah, this has been discussed at length.
The stock tire wear VERY QUICKLY and only start with 6mm of actual tread. My i8 is actually my daily so I swapped to Bridgestone 980AS and I love them.

Be thankful, now you can switch to Michelin PS4S in a slightly wider fit.

I drive 90% in comfort (electric front wheels) local roads and my front tires were done in 10k miles on my old i8. Obviously not pushing the car on local roads my average speed must be less than 30 mph. I was also averaging 89 MPG over those miles.

isn't the regular mode, 4wd but just bias towards electric and upshifts to 5th or 6th as opposed to sport mode which is max performance without the final upshift?

Comfort/Regular mode is Electric only, which is Front Wheel drive unless you are heavy with accelerator (more than 40%) or go over 75mph.

On the dash there is a blue line above the power gauge, if you go beyond (more than 40% throttle) at that point it kicks on the ICE and car becomes AWD.

You know when the ICE is on because the blue eDRIVE line above power disappears. It reappears when you are back on electric/front wheel drive again.

Thanks for that. I assume that if you are in comfort mode but put 'hold charge' on,
it only uses the ICE on rear wheel drive?
I must admit I haven't decyphed the speed information display fully yet!

On my 2018 LCI, ICE kicks in above 63mph for comfort mode.

Also, when the ICE kicks it, it isn't as far as I can tell 4WD. It's 'up to' 4WD, but most of the time it's RWD. 4WD is only presumably on kick down, slipping, or sports mode (with the blue 'e-boost' ring lit up).

It only uses the high voltage battery for torque fill - if you check the battery it'll use about 1% every 3-4 miles, it barely touches the electric motor in comfort mode when the ICE is running.

That might make sense that in Comfort when it kicks on the ICE it directs the power off the front wheels and pushes it to rear wheels using the ICE. That is why the blue eDRIVE line disappears from the display.

Balance algorithm evaluates how much power you are asking for. When ICE kicks in in Comfort mode, it is adding power; the little electric motor in back also kicks in to smooth out the transition. When cruising on highway the algorithm solution uses both e- and ICE w emphasis on max fuel consumption.

Back to OT, there is a curious level variation of tire life; some get 20k miles from OEM.

Perhaps «tire life» is interpreted differently by different folks.

Mine looked like this when they were changed after 17,158 km.:
