Bmw i8 baby seat

Hi All

I'm new to this forum, this is my first post. I've ordered my i8 but I'm wondering if anyone is able to tell me if they can fit a baby car seat in the rear. I know the i8 comes with ISO fix but I'm just wondering once the baby car seat is in, are you still able sit, in the seat in front or do you have to move the front seat so far forward that it's impossible for someone to sit in it.

Thanks

What model is your baby seat? Or how old is your child? I'm about to fix some rear seat set-up also, but that's yet to be tested. I think face-front seat works pretty good but a shelter for a small baby does not fit there.

From the looks of the back seat and front seat cushion clearance I'd say there should be no problem with a baby seat in the back.

Space is quite limited in the back of the i8, even with a front facing seat you have to put the front seat quite a bit forward.
My wife is around 1,70m and can sit comfortable with the Maxi Cosi in the back, so it really depends on how tall your passenger is .

I think child of this age will fit there, even rear facing. But when you have to change up to bigger seat, you might have problem between 1-2,5 age. Still better to use rear installation at that age and i8 won't work with that, at least not with all good and protective seats. After that, when front facing installation works like you see with upper posts, there's no problem again for years.

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread so hoping I can still get a response.

We are due with our first in a few months and having trouble finding a suitable baby seat.

The problem we encountered with each baby seat was that they exhibit quite a large gap where there rear seats dip. Roughly 30% of the car seat base actually touches the surface, this includes the maxi-cosi pebble previously mentioned.

Are there any solutions to this problem? Is this actually an issue and/or are there any other options?

Thanks!

Ok, i am the specialist on this.... i looked at every singly option....

1/ forget bmw seats. None fit. I physically tried them at the dealer.

2/ as far as i know, no isofix base fit if you want to have a passenger in the front at the same time.

3/ when Alice was 0-1.5 we used the maxicosy pebble rear facing and fixed it with the rear seatbelt. It worked ok. Need seat protection to avoid damaging the leather.

4/ now she has grown out of it. I went to Halfords here in the uk after looking at all porsche 911 threads on the planet. It turns out that the i8 troofline is slightly shallower than 911's.
The only seat fitting is the cheapest one they do which is front facing and only attachable via seatbelt. It is much smalled than any other seat on the market which are hugely cumbersome.
I would not use it on a dialy basis but it is perfect for occasional use. Alice is 2.

That's the one. It looks like it was designed for the i8! Stays there all the time. A bit annoying to fit with the belt at first, but once secured, it won't move!!

U.S. car seat solutions?

Hi everyone, I realize this post is old...wondering if there were any promising car seat solutions for those of us in the U.S.? (Or does the Halfords Essentials Group 1/2/3 car seat meet U.S. requirements?) Would love to see any pics if you could share as well. Thank you!

I have had my son in a front facing seat (2.5 years). I removed the lower seat cushion for more space. My wife could not put the seat back to a comfortable position; which compounded by the already thin padding on the coupe seats made it the last time we would go on any kind of long drive with the baby seat.

My son had a great time and kept yelling for me to go faster!

I bought the cheapest, narrowest, front facing seat from Walmart, round $40 and it fit perfectly for my 4 year old.

I bought 2 of these for my 3.5 and 5 years boys; once I get my i8 will let you know if they fit

I have been using a front facing in the rear for my just turned 3 year old girl since she was about 2.
Your wife has to be fairly petite to fit in the front seat.
The issue actually has become one of legroom for the toddler. The front seat really has to go all the way forward now because of her longer legs, compromising room for the front seat passenger.
I think anyone over 5'3" is going to have a problem in the front seat.

hi guys, im looking at a used I8 (UK based).
My kids are 5 and 7 - im wondering if the deep setup of the rear seats would be ok for them to sit in without baby seats?
they will be using the car on very adhoc occasions - emergencies only.

thoughts?

I am also in the UK. My 7 year old (only just 7, but she is quite tall) doesn't need a car seat in the back as the rear seats are quite shallow, so without any car seat she sits with her knees bent and feet on the floor, so per EU regs (which still apply til March at least!) doesn't need a seat.

For my 4 year old I use a maxi cosi rodifix (non-isofix version). Works pretty well, although is a bit fiddly getting the seatbelt buckle in as it is almost as wide as the seat.

US drivers here. Sorry to revive this old thread, but I'm expecting a new born this coming august. Really would love to know if there's an update if anyone found any good rear facing infant seat for the backseats. wife is 5ft so she can move the passenger seat up, as well as sitting in the back behind me as well. Could not find any maxi cosy pebble to buy currently. Is it out of stock or no longer being made?

From maxi, I only see Coral XP, Mico XP, and Mico 30. Any of these would fit similarly to the pico? Also anyone have other brand/model recommendation? What about putting a rear facing to the front passenger and disabling the passenger airbag? Is that even a safe idea?
