Why don't they just say there's a PPF application to the front grill. The way they have it mentioned makes it sound like the front grill uses some ground-breaking tech. Wonder if BMW ///Marketing has been feeding this BS to the magazines.

Other than that... love the interior. The exterior is weird but so was the i3. I would even consider one as a family hauler - but thinking we might be going X7 next.
I don't know what material exactly it is on the grille, but it feels very different from any PPF I've seen. It feels like a slightly tacky (maybe fricative is a better word?) plastic/rubber material. Not actually sticky, not smooth like PPF, but still full glossy.

Yup, that's why I mentioned "which is changing soon" in my post. Been seeing those articles saying they're going to open up their network at some point. They're probably going to charge a good bit to non-Tesla drivers, but they'll still be usable and will make a big difference in the overall infrastructure available to EV/PHEV owners.

Jalopnik added their review, it is pretty decent. https://jalopnik.com/the-electric-bm...ive-1847765429

This brings up a good comparison against an X5 xDrive45e

Fully loaded X5 PHEV is about the same price as an iX base price. Both qualify for federal tax credit. X5 has a decent 31 mile all electric range that should be good for majority of people, plus you get 470 mile highway range. If I was in the market I'd strongly consider driving X5 hybrid for a few years until the initial demand for iX dies down and they improve the range to 400-500 miles

Looks like BMW thinks that anything more than 360 miles of EV range is not necessary and therefore not in their plans.

EDIT: hmm, looks like they're backtracking a bit.

Well, it won't look like it was built in a backyard shed, like a Tesla, for one. The panels will actually line up and it won't need 12 hours of paint correction.

...right after you buy the $1000 charging adapter to convert the Tesla proprietary connector to the CCS plug on the BMW and all the other brands that use CCS. My hope is the other 3rd-party DCFC networks in NA get on the stick and increase their expansion to support.

It's ok to whine about its look in a general BMW forum.
But this is a dedicated iX forums for people who are interested or planning the buy the car.

Sure, you are "entitled" as this is not against the rule.
But it is simply not a nice thing to do in this dedicated forum, as interested buyers who want to check out the reviews in this thread have to wade through these useless hate and distracting posts.

I agree. We have one on pre order. We decided on the iX over the Model X. I also realize most BMW owners would never buy a Model X either. But there is a demand for it and BMW is targeting to get that buyer.

Almost all the reviews so far have been pretty positive.
Refinement seems to be a strong point - and I am excited about this, as this (or lack of) is one of the major flaw of Tesla.

I love the exterior design of the iX, looks menacing and futuristic.

The interior of the iX is on another level, probably best BMW interior ever.

I would also choose the iX over any Tesla, that's a no brainer.

TBH the comparison is pretty weak from the outset because judging a person's looks and comparing it to an inanimate object are different things.

I think commenting on any persons looks negatively is pretty mean but in a forum where none of us have driven the car, I think it's fair game to judge the looks of it at the very least.

If you're planning on purchasing a car and it's looks are polarizing, then you shouldn't be swayed either way on other peoples opinions on the car. But those people are still entitled to say what they think about it.

Agreed. I am looking forward to getting ours in June and looks like we made a good call in preordering. Looks like anyone ordering now won't get it for over a year! Yes, the interior was a big factor for us as well as the overall dimensions.

Tesla to J1772 adapters are around $160, not $1000. The main issue with the Supercharger network right now, is that they only recognize a Tesla vehicle, which could be changed with a software update. So if they open up their charging network, a $160 adapter would be all you need, and if you are buying an $80,000+ vehicle, and cannot afford a $160 adapter, than you have zero business buying said vehicle.

I’m not talking about J1772, which is AC-only… Tesla to CCS is what one needs for DCFC from a Tesla SC…and the ability to handshake/authorize the charge.

Tesla has launched a CCS to Tesla adapter…currently only available in KR… $250 retail. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if there is an adapter in that price range….however, I expect it to be over $500….it’s the tax to use their network.

Mines, over here - UK BMW exclusive day. Written bullet points and vid.
Best car I have driven all year... just happens to be electric AND ALSO SOOO EXPENSIVE. 550i was close, but the iX is the first BMW I have got excited about.

If they made this much effort on their other cars!!!!

With some cosmetic masking, the IX can look a bit sportier.

Pretty in-depth review. Doesn't break any new ground but well shot and really gives us a deeper look at the vehicle (about 30 minutes long).
