Other than that, congratulations, OP! Stellar looking car.
Gas cars aren't going anywhere fast. They currently have like 99 percent marketshare. But if you are afraid, buy the very best one you can get now and hold it forever in garage #3
Could very well be an alternative investment strategy. The question is what ICE vehicle to buy and hold.

I testdrove an iX xDrive 40 in early October and by late November I made up my mind and got my hands on a preorder that was already built so I couldn't change anything. The car had the right options but the wrong color, Blue Ridge Mountain. I think I can live with the color but will wrap it if I can't. But more on that later, now I want to focus on what I'm driving today and why I'm changing cars

I drive a 2020 BMW X5M Competition. It's a very rare car in Sweden. Only 37 is registered and I have never seen another one on the road. It has been my dream car for many years but I commute at least 160 km every day and with what I believe is the most expensive gasoline in the world, more than 2€ for a liter, its simply not doable doing it in a car that average 14 liters per 100km. But in early 2020 Corona became a pandemic. I was forces to start working from home and I had no more commute, so I traded in my 2019 X5 M50d and got a X5M competition.

The car was one of the first to arrive to Sweden and it was standing on my dealer's showroom floor. Carbon black and fully loaded. I absolutely love this car! The sound from the engine is just amazing. And the handling is unbelievably good for being such a heavy car.

I've had the X5M for about 18 months now. And I've been working from home the entire time. And yet I have driven the car almost 50.000km so I have used it quite a lot. I have actually spent around 15.000€ on gasoline during the pandemic working from home.

There is a huge EV wave in Sweden right now. It is selling a ton of electric cars and I think BMW is late to the game. BMW Sweden think gasoline/diesel cars will be banned from city centers as early as 2025 and no new gasoline/diesel cars can be sold by law by 2030. Its changing fast now. In a couple of years time gasoline can be 50% more expensive than today.

In November Sweden started opening up. My customer wanted me to come into their office. So, I realized I needed to change car. I want the iX M60 but they don't think I can get one until 2023 since it's not even released yet. The xDrive 50 was my second choice because of range but right now there is a 12-18 months wait for it. No customer 50s has arrived to Sweden yet. My dealar had a preordered iX xDrive 40 with all the packages so I bought it but I will be ordering a M60 as soon as I can

I was worried for the resale value of the X5M Competition but I am actually getting more for my X5m than I'm paying for the iX xDrive 40.

After I finalized the deal the pandemic has changed again and I'm once again forced to work from home. I actually have Corona right now and has spent the Christmas in quarantine. I have two shoots av vax and I'm doing fine.

I'm really excited for something new. I need a change. I have had my dream car and I love it but it is time for me to move on. Now, if only I could get the call…….

I had the opportunity to sit in an iX M60 today at CES is Las Vegas. The interior is beautiful.

Overall, I was really impressed. BMW wasn't offering rides in the iX M60 but I did get to try out an i4 M50 and was blown away by the torque. Wow. Insanely fast.

On a side note, can you recommend a wrap place in Stockholm area? (I need to do interior trim on my F30 and Im new in Stockholm).

Is there a reason why EV have to look so "bare bones" on the inside of futuristic on the outside?

How come we can't get an EV version of the X5 that looks like the regular X5, both inside and outside?

I have no problem driving an EV, but don't want something that looks like the iX. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing the OP's X5MC but in EV format.

Congrats to den heldige Svenske iX eier! 👍🏻
I've had two i3's, and currently driven the iX3 12.000km.
I have tested the iX40, looks like the majority og the 50 is going mostly to the US?

The iX3 is great for my needs, but the iX is a different animal, Much more modern and great to drive as a EV, no motion sickness. A extremly smooth and refined electric driving experience. With the adaptiv regen it's a great car and with the 50' you have the range you want/need.

Congratulations on being our first iX owner!

It is a shame to hear how Europe taxes the crap out of everything they can. I don't miss living there when it comes to crazy-ass taxes.

It's mainly because it's not peoples choice that they go away but woke overreaching lawmakers inflating the price of gasoline and gas cars themselves and forcing electric vehicles down peoples throats. He didn't want an iX, he has to get one because they have made it a huge financial problem to own the X5M long term. Gas doesn't cost 2€ per liter in any other country that doesn't tax the hell out of it. Can't wait until they start going for our older BMWs…

ICE vehicles have been on earth for the last 130 years or so and we survived just fine before they arrived. We'll be fine if EV's and other alternative fuels vehicles replace ICE cars. But you'll likely be able drive an ICE car for the rest of your life if you want. I currently own a BMW X7 and I like it. Yet I'm ready to move onto an iX 50 to give an EV a try. Maybe I'll miss owning an ICE car but maybe I won't. I can tell you this, I'm not part of any movement and don't feel compelled into making the move, I just want to give the iX or maybe even the upcoming MB EQS SUV a try.

My guess is that they found that most people rarely change the distance set, but for those that do, or for those rare times you want to, this will be a pain in the butt.

From p236 of the English user manual

Adjusting the distance
1. Press the button.
2. "Driver assistance"
3. "Driving"
4. "Distance control"
5. "Distance"
6. Select the desired setting
I have no manual setting. I can choose from three different distance settings but they apply for all conditions, there is no easy way to change that on the go

This one is disappointing. The X5M seats are way better. I'm struggling finding a position that feels perfect in the iX. I can't extend the seat the way I can in the X5M and it is to short for my 190 cm.

No, you are not the only one. I'm actually thinking about buying a track car but as a daily driver, electric is working out pretty good

Thanks for sharing your perspective about the seats. Another forum member reported the same. Indeed - rather disappointing.

I'm pretty sure we will get an iX5 when the next version arrives in 4 years and iX5M should come at some point in time. I definitely would choose the iX5MC over the iX

Tack
