Going to be in SF area for 2 days - recommendations for places to see and eat

Going to be out in Cali for 2 days for an interview with a tech company. Going to be in SFO on Sunday, and going to fly out on Tuesday. Should have 1 whole day to sight-see. Any recommended places to see and eat - right now I have the Golden Gate Bridge, Twin Peaks, PCH, and Google Campus. For food places just In-N-Out.

Any recommendations?

Alcatraz is cool but you have to buy tickets in advance usually.

Oh man there are a ton of places to eat in SF. So many it's hard to recommend without knowing what kind of food you like. Also, with just a day, you'll have to pick an choose just a few things to see. The Bay Area is a huge place. Oh and traffic in Financial District will drive you mad.

I'm open to anything - is there any local dishes I should try?

I'm assuming there's good Asian food and maybe Middle Eastern.

My interview/hotel is based out of Palo Alto/Mountain View

In Palo Alto I really enjoyed Sundance Steakhouse - old school place that serves great prime rib steaks. Amici's Pizza in Mt View is pretty good too if you like pizza. There are also some wineries around the Saratoga area that you can spend some time exploring. Or go to Livermore (like a smaller and much closer Napa). There's crawfish, Pho, and more hole in the wall places that serve great Indian, Ethiopian, etc. food.

Perry's is an excellent restaurant/bar

Perry’s is located at 1944 Union Street, between Buchanan and Laguna Streets, in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco.

If you like seafood, the Seafood Cioppino at Tadich Grill is really good and it's the oldest restaurant in California.

What company are you interviewing with??

Apple. They cold contacted me for a position. Wasn't in the plans but figured it wouldn't hurt.

Funny enough, I also got contacted for Tesla but they haven't gotten back to me with respect to scheduling an on-site.

You don't wanna work at Tesla anyway. They don't pay well and work you a lot. At least Apple pays well. Good luck on the interview!

If going to SF, you must try State bird Provisions (or House of Prime Ribs). I really liked SBP - so good. Was lucky to get in same day but normally is booked weeks out. What you do is go there when they open and put your name down for later that night. Usually they have space for a few tables without reservations.

There are also some really good and expensive sushi places in SF if you like that (like $200-300 per person).

I traveled out that way a few times last year. If you happen to be in Oakland (definitely not worth special trip there), I liked both Izzy's (Steakhouse) and Pican (southern - fried chicken really good and I can't remember last time I ate fried chicken).

For sites, there are many things to do / places to see, including many touristy things. If in the city (SF) I remember visiting and liking the SF Museum of Modern Art years ago. Ghiradelli Square was also a nice stop.

I don't see what is interesting about the google campus... it's just a bunch of office buildings with some decorations outside. Unless you know someone who works there to take you inside the offices, there's not much to see or do.

Also keep in mind that Mountain View/Cupertino is about a 1 hour drive to San Francisco with no traffic. With traffic it's easily 1.5 hours or more. You probably want to hit all the SF places before heading south for your interview or vice versa.

Tons of good any kind of food. If you can think of something, they'll have it. Most people avoid chain restaurants as the local places are much nicer and have better food. Yelp can be a good guide to start off with.

I've interviewed on site for Apple before. It usually takes most of the day and they provide lunch. As with most interviews, you have a conference room and interviewers rotate in and out.

Chinatown is a must, not only for food.
Asian Restaurants: Hakkasan, House of Nanking and Ton Kiang are very recommended from my experience.

Just visited 2 days ago and really enjoyed house of prime rib. Touring and getting a free lunch at Google was pretty cool too. Go watch a warriors game if any. Fisherman's wharf was ok but I prefer Santa Monica.

Hog Island is a great place to eat if you're into seafood and oysters.

One of my favorite restaurants in the world is "Burma Superstar". Look them of on Yelp as they are also one of the highest and most reviewed restaurants. You wont be disappointed.

Order the boneless chicken tandoori and ask for the Tika Masala sauce on the side... Okra is off the chain and so is their garlic na'an... Mango Lassi is made with Mitchell's mango ice cream so you almost want to bathe in it and then lick it off your body...

Closest thing to NYC pizza I've ever had... Their meatballs are fucking amazing...

If you like crabs, hit up Thanh Long. All you'll ever need is roasted crab and garlic noodles, and you're done. Call it a night

Oh I just remembered something. You should go to one of those Vietnamese "coffee shops" and have a fun night out.
