Talking Feeling Blue - most bang for my buck cosmetic mod I've done!

I collected my i8 today with its standard Turbine wheels painted blue by a wheel specialist in Kent.

They did a great job Very friendly company that looked after my i8 well.

For the money, I think this is best cosmetic modification I've done to a car.

In case anyone else is interested, the wheel specialist I used is Lepsons in Gillingham. My contact was Helen@lepsons.com

I am usually not a fan of colored rims. But, done right as yours were, those accents look great!

Thanks

And I know what you mean. I cannot think of any car other than the i8 that actually looks better with blue wheels!

I normally only go for black wheels, if coloured.

UFO

As someone else once said, it turns it up to Eleven .... making the i8 look even more alien on the roads

I'm not fan of colored rims either but yours is done neatly and brilliantly and looks very wicked and cool .

It's done well and in the spirit of the car. I am not a fan of anything blue on the i8 though...

Nice one...I think I might get those

Did you go for satin. It looks that way. Whatever you do don't jetwash them!

Thanks guys

Allan, to be honest I completely forgot to specify satin v gloss They did them in gloss btw. I suspect satin might look even better

I think blue accents generally work very well with the white i8 in particular, so the wheels just tie into the design aesthetic now.

The turbine pattern actually consists of three radii per spoke, only one of which is highlighted. It's fairly close to the W pattern when you look at it from different angles. I'd be interested in seeing all three spokes or radii highlighted, although probably in a burnished silver color rather than in blue.

Perhaps one to try on a photoshop. I thought to paint the whole thing would have been "too much", certainly if in blue.

I've got some photos of my own during the painting process all blue and all gunmetal (primer) it's way bulky. With the front face painted it the wheel looks a lot less bulky and it's got a nice 3D effect.

Agree completely mate. I hummed and hawed about gloss vs satin. If you take it back it's very easy for them to make the blue bit satin. They use different clear coat and a lower temp oven...the useless info you learn!

To be honest I'm really unsure what would look best. They look great already, but I do wonder if they would look even better with the black parts in satin. I'd want the blue to remain glossy.

I'm not even sure if that's possible, and suspect not, at least at this stage.

Fully painted wheel

I just found this site that does i8 mods. The interesting point being you can use their "configurator" to play with painting the turbine wheels, and it paints all the spokes fully.

It definitely does not look as good IMHO, but would only cost half as much to do as it is much less labour intensive to do them this way.

I agree it's too much blue. But I wonder what it would like like in a burnished "silver" color. They're really close to the W wheels. (I originally had the turbine wheels and traded for the Ws.)

You can use the URL in my post to configure to any wheel colour you like

I think a black or red or yellow solid colour i8 would work really well with the standard wheels painted in black btw. Black would be much better than the standard silvery alloy colour for those colour i8 cars IMHO.

I usually hate colored wheels (non-black) but this looks good.

Also, I originally wanted an i8 in white with gray accents and when I found an amazing deal on a white w blue car, I looked into having the accents wrapped gray/black since the blue seemed too busy vs everything I've owned in the past. Now after a few months of living with the car, I not only love the blue accents but would get them again.

Actually, I think the blue painted turbines look as if they were meant for your i8. Not only do they compliment the rest of your vehicle's blue accents, they seem to visually enhance its side profile as well. Excellent choice!
