r8 owner with questions

Have had r8 spyder for 3 years and looking for something different. While not as fast as my car it seems interesting.

Test drove one today and was pretty impressed. Very smooth and fairly quick. Overall I thought it was a very nice drive.

1. Seems like there are a ton of these used for sale and they take a big depreciation hit.

2. That being said it might just pay to lease it and not worry about depr.

3. Anyone know any rock bottom lease deals on the east coast. NY, NJ area.

4. Will the novelty of the car wear off and it will become boring.

5. As far as attention goes. I drive a red r8 spyder, so plenty of attention/

Any other advise as far as options, etc...

Downside to the car??

I leased. There are plenty of good deals out there. It's an awesome car. I have a 458 Italia, rolls ghost and Bentley CGT. I can tell you that i8 is my favorite car. Just barely nudging out the 458. Hard to beat the 458 sound though. Great part of the i8 is the positive attention. Especially from kids. I keep the car in Pittsburgh and this city has a pretty bad car appreciation culture even though the Pittsburgh vintage grand Pri is great. Even here the i8 gets love.

I love it. Didn't come out of anything, I just wanted a sports car in Pittsburgh. The cars I mentioned are my cars in Scottsdale. I didn't have anything fun in Pittsburgh (added i8 to my Volvo XC90 and MB S550). I test drove a MB AMG GTS, Nissan GTR, Porsche 911 4s, and the i8. The i8 was the winner.

I love it too. The 570s looks incredible. Closest dealer to Pittsburgh though is in Philly. I can't see trading the 458 for it bc I love my 458 spec.

Awesome car. Might lease the I8 for 2 or 3 years and see what the used market for 570, nsx, r8 . Mclaren takes a massive depr hit. Love my r8, but in the mood to change it up. My son thinks I am downgrading. Lol

Haha how old is your son? He'll like how ppl respond to the doors when you guys go places. I'd think it would get more attention than the R8. Even though the R8 is an amazing car ppl just love the i8.

The 570S is a car you can lease btw. It'll be $2400 a month though so I'm not sure of your budget. There's a fella on Ferrari Chat offering a 650S for a lease takeover. No cash down, 3k per month. I would absolutely have snatched it up and just added it to my Pittsburgh cars but again, not sending it to Philly to get serviced.

He is 17 and likes how fast the car is. It's a red spyder so I am use to the honking, cameras, etc. Looks like I can lease one of these for like $1200 a month with small out of pocket.

Mclaren lease is like $2500 a month with huge out of pocket. Would rather buy it used in a couple of years. Any thing you don't like about i8?

I like the fact that I can daily drive it more then my r8 which sat in my garage. I've had it 3 years. Some people think it's a downgrade from R8.

You can drive the hell out of it. There's nothing I don't like. I'd like it to be quicker and the brakes to be better. But they're plenty good for Pittsburgh. In two years the i8.2 will be out and will check both of those boxes. I'll upgrade then.

Put it this way. The ONLY car like it on the road is a Porsche 918. Those are worth $1.75mm. It's 60% of a 918 for 1/12 the price.

The i8 is a great car but it is definitely not a car that I would want to own. Which is why I leased one instead. After my lease, I will most likely get back into a 911 turbo or a M3. The i8 greats a lot of attention. I agree that the brakes can be better. I still can't get used to the brakes when in sport mode.

TaxDr - I'll trade you my i8 for your R8 for a week. I'm 45 min south of NYC. I'm just joking, sort of

I highly recommend BMW i8 , my first ever two door coupe and hybrid car with scissor doors . It attracts people more than I thought it would be . I bet i8 will draw more attention since you're used to cameras, honks, chats that should be no problem at all
i8 is one of its kind ,you wouldn't find a better car just bearing 1.5 liter with electric powered car

In performance terms the i8 is definitely a significant downgrade from the R8.

In terms of looks, I personally think the i8 knocks spots off the R8, which just looks like a bigger TT.

Overall in terms of usability and range of abilities, the i8 is far superior to the R8.

Agreed. I think as super car owners though we need to be honest with ourselves between what's usable in the road and what's just performance for bragging rights. I think my 458 is as much as is usable on the road. If the i8 had 10-15% more performance it would easily match the 458. Hopefully i8.2 solves this.

For example, I've driven a lot of great cars. The F12 Berlinetta is TOO much for the road. It's like 5 seconds to jail stuff. Same with the 675LT. I've never driven the hybrid HyperCars but I can't even imagine considering the 918 will do 0-100 mph (aka huge ticket/jail) in less than 5 seconds. At some point the extra performance just isn't usable.

I agree that's why I am not concerned about the speed of the car anymore. More interested in the feel and drive of the car. I drove it a second time today and really enjoyed how smooth the car feels. Live molten lava it just flows nicely.

Yes

Get more time behind the wheel and you see the i8 drives like a precision instrument. Steering is scalpel-like, albeit the wheel lacks feedback, like all modern cars with electric assistance

Brute force style driving does not suit this car (ala M cars for example).

And if you really want a bit more power, there are now performance tunes available.
